Employee Burnout is Fast Becoming the Silent Killer in the Corporate Sector

In the hustle and bustle of ‘always-on work culture,’ a silent outbreak lurks in the corner called?Employee Burnout.?

Before we dig into the discrepancy between a company’s management efforts and increasing mental health difficulties among its workers, let’s first determine what burnout in corporate culture is.?

Burnout is characterized by physical signs like exhaustion, changes in sleep or appetite, and even recurrent illnesses that begin the process. On the emotional side, employees could experience heightened fret, self-doubt, motivational loss, feelings of isolation or feeling trapped, and even generalized unhappiness.?

When workers are glutted with excessive work and pressed for time with no breaks, faced with limited decision-making freedom, a lack of resources to meet job requirements, and a workspace environment where they can’t maintain a healthy work-life balance, they may?be mentally?and?physically drained.

It’s a no-brainer that when an employee goes through a rough patch at work, there’s a significant decline in productivity and job satisfaction. This means that the employee faces detrimental effects and inhibits their ability to function at their peak.

Have you ever wondered if companies are doing enough to minimize this burnout culture??

According to a Deloitte study, “Almost 70% of US professionals say their employers are not taking enough steps to prevent or alleviate burnout in their workplace.”?

That’s a lot of people in the same boat.?

The solution to this problem isn’t as complex as it may seem. Let’s find out:

Cure 1: Let your workers speak their hearts.?

Begin by giving your workers a platform to voice their opinions and feelings openly, simply listening to what they say and bringing solutions to their distress.?

This is a fundamental step that an organization’s management can take to emphasize unwritten policies that encourage a good work environment.

Cure 2: Try to respect boundaries.

Yes, some boundaries exist in the corporate sector as well. Managers should avoid bugging their employees during their time off through phone calls or emails. This will create an atmosphere that actively promotes work-life balance. They should understand that employees have lives outside of work and allow them to balance it all.??

Cure 3: Educate your employees on adopting healthy habits.?

Host seminars for employees based on standards that include healthy practices in and out of the workplace. Campaigning about the importance of self-care will help employees have access to the resources they need to succeed in preventing burnout.

Cure 4: Don’t say ‘no’ to brief pauses; allow them to rejuvenate.?

During those much-needed breaks from their workstations, your employees will have the right headspace to regain focus and be effective at work.?This will have a tremendous impact on their emotional as well as physical health.

Cure 5: Appreciate your employees?

Acknowledging your employees' efforts boosts morale and reinforces their value within the organization. Whether through verbal praise or incentives, showing appreciation fosters a positive work environment where employees feel motivated and supported.

Unfortunately, we live in a generation where work-life balance is frequently overlooked, which is the primary cause of employee burnout.?We typically fail to recognize that a company’s employees are its most valuable asset. Consequently, we overlook prioritizing their mental and physical well-being.?

These implementations are the need of the hour because - “87 percent of professional respondents said they are passionate about what they do, yet 64 percent are frequently stressed.”
