On July 13th Employability.life signed an agreement with Lamrin Tech Skills University Punjab (LTSU) that will deliver experiential micro-credentials (XPMCs) as a mandatory part of the Mechanical Engineering with Design & Manufacturing bachelor's program.??

The students undergoing this programme will participate in team-based projects solving real-life problems and will interact with industry and subject matter experts to prepare for the world of work while studying at the university. Alongside achieving mastery in their domain, students will master professional skills for the global digital economy through?Employability.life 's 5 Digital Economy Capabilities (5DEC) model. Also, as they achieve their degrees from LTSU, the students will earn globally recognised XPMCs, backed by our global strategic partner, Federation University Australia . Together with LTSU, we will be preparing professionals whose skills are relevant to local job markets but equally equipped to become global business leaders.??

Each student will do 6 XPMCs during their studies and will receive paid internships at Ansys in their final year. Moreover, selected LTSU faculty will be trained and certified to act as Project Managers (and Mentors) for the #XPMC teams while Employability.life will provide Product Owners, a platform for project management, learning materials and assessments. In the frame, we have Dr Sandeep Singh Kaura , Raja Dasgupta , Sanjiv Mehta , Prof. B. World Association for Cooperative and Work-Integrated Education (WACE) ?

On June 27th, our CEO, Supriyo Chaudhuri took part in 2023 WACE ?World Conference at the University of Waterloo with a focus on cooperative education. In his words, it is the commitment and enthusiasm of cooperative educators that is inspiring and challenges the perception that they are detached from practical education. Nevertheless, pressing concerns, such as declining undergraduate enrolment, the demand for global talent, and the uncertainty of government funding for work-integrated learning has been evident though the conversations. ?

An emphasis on the importance of shifting the paradigm towards data-driven approaches and scalable platform solutions that go beyond traditional institution-employer connections is what Employability.life wants to offer while building the global cooperative network. The question remains how to support learners through work-integrated learning using data without being intrusive and how to merge work and classroom environments for a comprehensive learner experience.?

A new architecture for global cooperative education?

Despite the popular notion that university has nothing to do with professional preparation, the opposite is the case.?Universities emerged in medieval Europe precisely to provide the professionals (in law, theology and medicine) that society and its rulers required.?

Following the history of the university from this starting point also addresses another erroneous claim that is frequently made: that universities have remained the same for 1000 years and never changed. This is untrue, as can be seen from the disruptive impact of the printing revolution, which led to the creation of disciplinary structure of the research university.?

Another wave of change was prompted by the industrial revolution and the new requirements for skilled personnel, followed by the transformation wrought by the globalisation of the last thirty years. Universities have always evolved as the demand for professions changed and altogether new ones emerged.?

This is crucially important for the Employability.life mission of institutional transformation, especially because our very existence is predicated on the fact that the university is now entering a fifth phase: globalisation has stopped developing on the predictable lines laid out after the end of the Cold War, and the middle-class jobs are under threat. Technological changes, especially the developments in AI, as well as the flatlining of population growth, mean that there is an imperative for change in higher education that has not been seen for at least twenty years.?

This is why we see the Employability.life’s mission?as crucially important, in setting out the transformations necessary to build the university of the future. Our key offering at this vital juncture can thus be summarised: With our focus on comprehensive engagement with our university partners (in which we become fully their transformation agents, not merely course providers), we are?setting out a new architecture for global cooperative education. With the XPMC framework we provide the scalable integration of work-based learning into the curriculum.?
