Empires of The Mind - Denis Waitley (Key lessions)

Hello everyone, I would like to take some time out to summarize some key aspects from the book "Empires of the mind". This indeed is a handy book which gives you strategies to evolve and lead yourself towards greatness in this high paced world.

Some core learnings are shared below:

  1. Welcome change as a rule, but not as a ruler. The new leaders & the new empires of the mind will be those who would first welcome changes, rather than trying to resist it. Second, have learnt how to make change work for them rather than against them. Third: Who have developed unique strategies & skills for themselves which enables them to create opportunities out of challenges.
  2. You are the CEO, being responsible: To be responsible leaders, one should understand that being different is admirable & valuable, it includes "higher personal & professional standards of behaviour", "putting more time and effort into everything you do" and "taking calculated risks". Live by this proverb: You must act self employed, but be a team player. You are the CEO of your own life. Begin to think yourself as a service company with one employee (YOU). You are small company which puts your services to work for larger company everyday.
  3. Do what you loved as a child: Spend time in figuring out, what you liked when you were a child, and somewhere around in your life, build something around it, as a profession or as a hobby. This will keep you alive and kicking in life. On most of the occasiions what you wanted and thought from childhood, converts to your career/life path as adult. Even tough in between people might be miss-guided, but in long run will roll back to their childhood impulses by the age of 35 (If not as profession, but as a hobby).
  4. Self leadership & integrity: "Integrity" - a standard of personal ethics. You either live by it or you not. Without this, the term "leadership" fades away. 3 key integrity principles: (1) Take a stand when you truly believe its right. Don't back down, despite social pressure. (2) Always give others the credit which is rightfully theirs. (3) Be honest and open about who you really are. Dont fake your identity.
  5. Self leadership & core values: Look in the mirror, ask these questions to yourself: "Do you respect the person you see?", "Is it someone you really want to be?", "Are you doing what you want to personally & professionally do", "Are you going where you want to go?", "Are you incharge of your life?". A more confident yes to most of these questions mean your life is well balanced on right track, with great core principles of life.
  6. Self leadership & vision: An ability to convert past experience into positive input & to visualize a desired future. And some of the great leaders of the world are extreme visionary. Learning: A mind can't distinguish between imagined & real incident. The mind stores as truth everything that is vividly rehearsed and practised. Since the mind can relive experiences, asif they are happening, it can also pre-live experiences that haven't yet happened. This is the secreat to goal setting. In truth, we see more with our mind, than our eyes.
  7. Self leadership & passion (Your purpose in action): Words of wisdom: "Difference between Job & Career" - Don't just get a job rather build a strong career. A job is what you do simply for money, whether you life is or not. But a career is something you do because you must do it. You want to do it. You love doing it. You are excited when you do it. And you do it even when you are paid nothing beyond food and basics. You do it because its your life.
  8. Self leadership & power - your invisible force: The definal of global power starts with LEADERSHIP. Great leadership == leads to ==> strong management == leads to ==> great working environment == leads to ==> employee satisfaction == leads to ==> employee loyalty == leads to ==> employee productivity == leads to ==> Customer value == leads to ==> Customer satisfaction == leads to ==> Customer loyalty == leads to ==> volume & repeat sales == leads to ==> revenues == leads to ==> profits == leads to ==> capital investment == leads to ==> technology == leads to ==> information access == leads to ==> global power train. "Leadership" - Excersing the vision to change traditional role from commander to coach, from manager to mentor, from director to deligator, from one who demands respect to one who facilities self-respect.
  9. Self leadership & knowledge: Rise by acquiring & implement new knowledge. Everything is available on internet. You just need to sit, search, learn & apply. Those who put this simple process will evolve with time and others will keep getting behind.
  10. Self leadership & Skills - Your winning & loosing habits: Its important to understand, that growth is crutial part of life. A leader should not create an environment where the team feels so safe and comfortable that they stop their growth. It should be challenges and pushing them to rise on occasions. Install great habits within an individual which will help them to transform and rise. And work in eliminating loosing habits. Whatever an individual performs over a period of time, repeatedly, will become a habit and integral part of life. Install the habit to upgrade your skills overtime and keep rising as an individual.
  11. Self leadership & Love - Your greatest gift: Core essense of love is to empower others to become as independent and valuable as they can be. When others sense that you care and genuinly wants other to succeed, rather than you caring about only yourself, they begin to trust you. The way this rule applies for personal lives, the same way it reflects in business world.
  12. Self leadership & service - your road best travelled: Success is a process and not destination. Success is not the destination or the journey, is of how you travel. Its important to understand it doesn't count what you have now, the whole deal matters of what you do with what you have. Like it would have less significance of how much money you have, but what matters the most is what do you do with that money.

These are some of key principles which would shape a whole new dimension to life. I am making a personal commiment to live by as maximum principles are possible. Yes, it would be tough but who said its easy. Let's give our best shot to rise as in individual and grow to the whole new level.

Wishing you all the very best. Thanks for reaching to this line.
