The UNTHNKBL LIVE Podcast Episode 10 is live.
What's the difference between invention and innovation?
Michael Bayler and Dr William Webb continue this short series of discussions, based on their respective bodies of advisory work and published books.
They turn their attention this week to "The 5G Myth" and "The Liquid Enterprise".
Close examination of the parallel journeys of network providers and operators, and the vertical sectors that reside and trade on those networks, provides fascinating and often counter-intuitive lessons.
As the invention and introduction of ever-faster and bigger pipes - in particular focusing on 5G and 6G - enter the market, both the customer and enterprise value realised from these powerful feats of engineering are diminishing.
At the same time, the industry verticals and the majority of businesses within them still struggle to grasp and activate the truly disruptive dynamics that "The Network" has introduced, and thus to fully leverage the enormous range of innovation opportunities on offer.
One side needs to slow down and consider where real network impacts reside in the future. The other needs to accelerate, to shift their attention towards the value disruptions that the network has already clearly brought into being.
Above all, they need to come together to - after all this time - to combine engineering investing with value innovation for the benefit of all stakeholders.
