Empathy - the queen of soft skills

Empathy - the queen of soft skills

When speaking about new work and implementing contemporary and healthy working culture, you can't get around Soft Skills. Especially now, still in the eye of the storm that is the global corona pandemic, businesses strongly need to rely on their soft skills. Especially for more conservative companies, the normalization of home office work pushed the necessity of trust beyond boundaries as managers have faith in their teams, employers in their workforce, and vice versa. Businesses no longer interact in person and require more interpersonal skills while displaying a greater degree of sense for their opposite's feelings. In other words: They need to be more empathic.

Team player, ability to integrate and co

In the career-driven Generation X, empathy might have had a hard standing, but the following generation of Millenials found a way to integrate it further into working culture. As skillsets balance from emotional intelligence to taking key roles in mentoring coworkers, there is that one skill called empathy that I want to point out firmly.

People with responsibility concerning the workforce should especially check that box when hiring new employees or offering workshops to their established staff members. Empathy has long been overlooked as working coming from elbow mentality. Why is it so important? Empathy relates positively to job performance.

The ability to be compassionate and connect with the people around you is critical to our lives, both personally and professionally. When you can show empathy, you show you are a person of emotional intelligence, which again improves the interaction with the people around you. It leads to effective communication and overall positive outcomes. Especially in times of a global crisis, people often feel powerless and lack of drive when it comes to focusing on work. We have to remind ourselves always that we are all in the same boat, and emotional stress takes a different toll on everyone. A situation you can handle more easily than others must not be a simple situation, and vice versa.

In my workshops, I like to point out the importance of empathy in any business-related value chain as it is a crucial component for wellbeing in the workplace. Feel free to contact me about possible workshop opportunities at any time - here or via email: [email protected]
