?? Empathy or endurance: what will make your 2025 resume shine?

As the new year draws near, fitness resolutions will be making their return (and so will Wellable Weekly on January 8th!). In 2025, resumes featuring marathon times and gym PRs could either help candidates land their next role or raise red flags. Plus, soft skills will steal the spotlight in hiring decisions, and the traditional five-day work week may condense. This week, we’re covering whether fitness achievements can secure jobs, surprising skills recruiters are seeking, and the work arrangement that may define the year ahead. We’ll see you in 2025 with more insights and updates to kickstart your year!?

In this edition:

  • Why “bodybuilder” belongs on some resumes??

  • Forget coding—start strengthening emotional intelligence?

  • How a four-day week is saving businesses and burnout?

  • Insurers’ red tape is costing more than time?

This week's top 4 workplace trends

Meme of two dogs. The text under the muscular dog reads, "Applying to jobs with my super fast marathon time on my resume" The text under the crying dog reads "Getting rejected from jobs because I didn't use the marathon to demonstrate any transferrable skills." The caption of the meme reads "Note to self: People care more about your soft skills than your marathon time.

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

?? Marathon times could land candidates a job offer (or tank their chances)?

Are fitness achievements on resumes a career boost or a misplaced brag? While some recruiters appreciate the display of perseverance and discipline, others warn that mentioning marathon times or bodybuilding wins is overly personal. Relevance is key—when tied to professional growth or transferable skills (e.g., goal setting, commitment), these achievements can elevate applications instead of raising eyebrows. Employers can train recruiters to evaluate non-traditional resume entries more holistically, recognizing how personal accomplishments reflect workplace traits.?

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

?? Soft skills trump tech skills in the future of work??

Technical skills might open doors, but emotional intelligence is what truly sets candidates apart. Recruiters increasingly prioritize soft skills like conflict management, feedback delivery, and effective communication when evaluating applicants. Investing in emotional intelligence and conflict resolution training equips employees with skills that enhance leadership potential, improve workplace collaboration, and drive organizational success.?

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS

?? Ninety-two percent of companies say yes to four-day weeks??

A UK pilot of the four-day work week found that 92% of participating companies plan to keep the arrangement, citing happier teams, reduced burnout, and sustained business outcomes. Implementing focus hours and cutting unnecessary meetings allowed businesses to maintain productivity while giving employees more personal time. As return–to-office mandates increase, employers should consider experimenting with a four-day workweek or other flexible work arrangements to foster work-life balance.?

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS

?? How insurance hurdles delay patient care?

Doctors are growing frustrated by the bureaucratic hurdles they face with insurance companies, including lengthy approval processes and retroactive payment demands. These challenges jeopardize the financial health of smaller practices, delay patient care, and amplify stress for all parties. Employers should select healthcare plans with efficient claims processes and positive provider relationships to ensure employees have access to prompt and reliable care.?

Employees report that if their employer implemented a 5-day in-person RTO mandate: 66% would not comply with the policy, 14% would quit their job, and 41% would seek a WFH role elsewhere.

As RTO policies become more prevalent in 2025, it's important for employers to seriously consider employee satisfaction. Hybrid work arrangements are a great solution that optimize in-office productivity and employee flexibility.?
