In Emozo's first spotlight interview, we asked Carsten Schwerm, Vice President, Global Marketing and Customer Success at Emozo Labs to answer some simple attention and emotion questions. Usually, Emozo's Research & Feedback Collection platform measures a person's detailed unconscious response (attention and emotions) to a stimulus with the help of technology, followed by questions to capture their conscious responses. For this series, we only asked without applying stimulus and technology. The answers come from every aspect of life.
Let's Dive In!
Can you share an example of something...?
1- That easily captures your attention?
Any Porsches I see. Starting with the 911, Porsches are my favorite sports car. Porsches have been capturing my attention very easily since early childhood.
2- That hardly gets your attention?
Internet trolls. Because trolls do not make the world a better place. I favor the “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all” approach.
3- That makes you show happiness?
US late-night talk show hosts. I usually try to keep up with their monologues and select segments on YouTube.
4- That makes you show surprise?
Since I love the outdoors, I am always amazed when I see a little or a big piece of magnificent nature that appears intact to the layperson.

5- That makes you show no reaction?
When I am shown video ads on YouTube made for a target audience I do not belong to.
6- That makes you show sadness?
While I am passionate about several causes, I most often experience sadness when someone treats our environment like their personal trash collector. I was raised to only throw trash in a bin and not drop it on the spot.
7- That makes you show fear?
I have not seen any horror movies in a long time. However, I remember some good ones that absolutely let me forget I was sitting on a sofa after an average school day.
8- That makes you show disgust?
Videos of medical procedures. I admire the physicians for their skills, and I feel for the patient. But, I do not like watching them.
9- That makes you show anger?
When I am shown video ads on YouTube over and over again. I not only feel annoyed. I experience some low level of anger by the seemingly endless (and pointless) retargeting approach. As a marketer, I know this should not be. These video ads are usually about products and services of no relevance or benefit to me.
