An emotional and unexpected call

Few days back I started my computer in the morning like any other day at work. And suddenly saw a Skype call is coming from a colleague whom I have not seen or talked since more than 6 years. I felt happy and even without waiting for her 'Hello' I started talking "What a great surprise that you are calling me, I am so glad to hear your voice after such a long time. So tell me, how are you and what is the reason of your call? "
I think she was not expecting such initial words from me because I felt from her voice that she was not same exited like me. She said very slowly that she is feeling very happy that I still remember her. She told me that the next day would be her last working day before retirement and before leaving she wanted to farewell me in a more friendly way than just an e-mail.
I was shocked and didn't knew how to respond right away and to be honest, I got a little sentimental because with this lady I have had many mail communications but I have meet her maybe two times in person because we were not working at the same location.
We talked few minutes and said good bye to each other and exchanged our phone numbers. I was overwhelmed because that moment was much more important than any appreciation I could receive.
In big concerns we employees sometime feel like nothing more than a number that does some work but we forgot sometimes that around us are ordinary people same as you and me. Therefore we should never forget to respect each other and celebrate the moments we have together no matter how small or short. If we calculate then we can see that most of our time we spend with our colleagues at work.
