In places where the professional character is dominant like offices, We can easily forget that we - after all - are dealing with humans, Humans whose emotions matter and can be a game changer.
High IQ -sometimes- can guarantee that you will be able to perform your day-to-day tasks, However, Your EQ - Emotional intelligence - will 100% guarantee that you will be able to convert your office to something like HOME and give you a chance to enjoy while performing those tasks.
Emotional Intelligence is defined as the ability to understand, use, and manage your own emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, communicate effectively, empathize with others, overcome challenges and defuse conflict.
And as everyone achieves goals through a series of daily conversations, interactions, and decisions -Each of these involves multiple people- the more emotionally intelligent they are, the more effective they will be on every level, and the faster they will achieve their goals.
Emotional intelligence has four main areas.?
The first area is self-awareness which focuses?on how well you know yourself including your values,?strengths, weaknesses, triggers, skills ....etc.; because all those points highly contribute to the decisions you are making every day - even if you are not realizing that -.?
The next area is self-control which is about?managing your emotions and actions?in productive and healthy ways. It's human nature to have situations that challenge you,?but you want to develop strategies for managing yourself, Especially when you are under stress or you need to take fast decisions. those strategies can contain moving your body, like going for a walk.?Talking with a trusted friend.?Take a few minutes to just vent your thoughts and feelings..etc, The most important point is to remember not to take any action until you get your control over yourself back.
Remember, you will rarely regret waiting a few hours?or days, but you will often regret acting too quickly.
The third area is our awareness of others.?The more you understand yourself, it becomes much easier to correctly read?and identify similar qualities in others,?like their emotions, values, skills, and work style. and if you could not point out those, the easiest next thing is to ask them directly -most people will like to talk about themselves-, We need to be aware of others because we need to be part of a community, form meaningful bonds with others and we know?that being marginalized from a group can be dangerous both in professional and personal worlds.
Finally, the fourth area is building relationships.?Working in teams in general is related to all three core human needs.?Being on a team can enhance?or threaten our sense of safety and security.?Working with others creates an additional community?to belong to or feel excluded from?and often our work in teams is tied to our desire?to reach our fullest potential?for our professional growth and development. So, how we utilize our awareness of others?to maximize their potential and our relationship can truly enhance our overall quality of life.
Remember, Your success rests on your ability to change, And change is never easy and most of the time, scary.
Finally, don't wait until you have?an official or formal managerial role to share your thoughts and make an impact.?Leadership is what really matters and Leadership is a practice, not a position.?Anyone can lead.?If you lead from your values and your passion,?you will make an impact.?
