?? Emotional Intelligence in Global Leadership: What the Trump-Zelenskyy Clash Teaches Us
Did you see what happened in the office the other day?
No?...let me recap.
This past week, the world witnessed a powerful example of emotional intelligence—or the absence of it—in action. In a tense Oval Office meeting, former President Donald Trump demanded an immediate ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine with an agreement to Ukraine's precious metals and natural resources. At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held firm, advocating for security guarantees before negotiating peace. Both sides had things to gain...and lose.
Then...Zelenskyy got kicked out.?? (Sound like another scandalous reality show, right?)
The exchange ended abruptly, with Zelenskyy asked to leave and global leaders scrambling to reaffirm support. This high-stakes clash is a compelling case study that we can all learn from.
???I want to point something out:
What we saw on Friday is a clear example of transactional leadership from one side vs collaborative leadership. Period. Full stop. ??
But here’s the thing—most leaders don’t actually know their own leadership style. And even fewer know how to recognize the style of the person across the table, which is crucial if you want to navigate high-stakes moments like this one.
When you can identify leadership styles—yours and others’—you can move through conflict, negotiations, and challenges with more strategy and intention.

Let's get back at it.
Now think, has this ever happened in your office? Well, I was in the corporate world for 26 years, and believe it or not, yes...I have seen this type of conflict. The only difference—there were no cameras in the room. These are not isolated incidents, but rather universal challenges that many of us face in our professional lives.
Moments like this are more than political theater. They reveal exactly why emotional intelligence isn't optional—it's essential. And through the practical lens of my EQ Impact? Framework, we can draw actionable lessons and apply solutions in our own leadership, especially when facing high-stakes challenges. This framework is not just theoretical, it's a set of tools that can be used in real-world situations.
?? How do you respond when challenged? (Do you recognize your body in these moments? Yes/No? That is mindfulness.)

The takeaway:
Peace isn’t just a global ?? goal—it’s essential in our workplaces, too. Real peace shows up in how we handle tension with colleagues, peers, and employees.
Because here’s the truth: Leadership isn’t proven in calm moments—it’s revealed when you’re challenged.
Whether you’re navigating office dynamics or international conflict, your emotional intelligence is what determines if you escalate chaos or create solutions.
So, let me ask you:
What’s your EQ Impact??
