Emotional Eating and Past Trauma

It shouldn't come as a surprise that there is a strong connection between emotional eating or binge eating disorder, and trauma. For any health professional regularly encountering emotional or binge eating, it's important to understand the impact of past trauma on client's behaviours in the present - from self-neglect and self-punishment to withholding forgiveness - there are many complex factors that block the healing process.
There can be a bit of a 'chicken and egg' situation with clients too. At Eating Freely we generally support the client in resolving their relationship with food first, then either offer or find appropriate support for doing the deeper trauma work. However in some cases the client may need to do some work on resolving the trauma through therapy before working on behaviour and lifestyle changes. It's important to be able to make this judgement call.
Today, I am highlighting several key manifestations of past trauma in client's current behaviours, and they may surprise you!
As always I hope you find this video helpful and welcome your feedback in the comments.

*NEW!*? - ?CONFIDENCE TO PRACTICE
One of the most common blocks we hear about from practitioners who train with us, is around the business end – marketing, selling and finances.? Many practitioners just do not realise how much there is to do in order to have a busy practice with enough clients coming in regularly to both cover your costs AND pay you a reasonable salary!
We’ve trained over 300 practitioners and have Licensed over 60 as Eating Freely Practitioners, and one of the key benefits of licensing is that we provide a LOT of business support and coaching to our practitioners.
Because we know it is such a big issue for so many health professionals in private practice, we’ve decided to open up our 12 week ‘Confidence to Practice’ to non-licensed practitioners for the very first time!
Starts: ????????????? ????????????? Friday 13th September – 20 minute induction call.
Weekly 90 min live calls at 10am EST / 3pm Ire-UK on Fridays.
Duration: ?????????????????????? 13th September – 13th December 2024.
What’s involved????????? Everything! From setting financial goals and crafting a 3-5 year vision for yourself and your practice, to designing your own signature program for clients, and the how-to of marketing and selling your services – on social media, your website and locally.
Our goal is to ensure you can fully recover your training fee with your first 1-2 clients for your signature program and you have a step-by-step marketing plan in place to consistently sell your program.
