Emotional Agility is a process that allows us to CHANGE or MAINTAIN our behaviours in ways that ALIGN WITH OUR INTENTIONS AND VALUES
-?Susan David, Emotional Agility, PhD
We often are fixated on certain feelings and perspectives that we close ourselves off to alternatives and new possibilities. These rigid emotions lead us to unhappiness, unproductive behaviours, anxiety, and sometimes even depression.?
Emotional Agility is about being flexible with your thoughts, feelings and? behaviours. People who are emotionally agile often able to see things from perspectives, look at bigger picture, tailor their responses according to situation, are able to cope with change and uncertainty. This helps them to be aware of their thoughts, emotions, feelings, core values.?
Steps towards being Emotionally Agile
Step1- Show up:?
Face your thoughts/ feelings with curiosity and compassion and even by practicing to accept your darker side.?
Step2- Stepping out:
Practice to detangle from the hooked emotions, feelings, memories which are weighing you down. This would help you to evaluate situations better, look at things from different perspectives and identify new possibilities.
Step3- Walking your why:
Focus on your core values and own long term goals instead of others’ expectations.?
Step4- Moving on:
Moving forward is always a tough step, so instead of expecting a drastic change just practice by taking baby steps ie by making tiny changes in 3 key areas - your mindset, motivation, and habits.?
