Emma Morck, Intern at STAT-UP
STAT-UP Statistical Consulting & Data Science
Advanced Analytics, AI, Big Data, Machine Learning - Customised solutions including training since 2003 - Munich, Madrid
Emma holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Public Law from the University of Mannheim. During her studies, she absolved an exchange semester at Sciences Po Lille. Her decision to apply for an internship at STAT-UP was mainly influenced by the quantitative emphasis of her political science studies in Mannheim. Also, she wanted to gain practical experience in the field before starting a Master’s program in data science. STAT-UP's focus on combining statistical analysis with data science consulting perfectly aligned with Emma’s desire to apply these skills in a practical, impact-driven environment. In her free time, Emma likes dancing and spending time in nature. Especially running and hiking are two of her favorite activities.
What is your daily job at STAT-UP?
My work at STAT-UP involved contributing to a range of projects, applying data analysis techniques across different sectors, including healthcare. I conducted statistical evaluations and supported decision-making with data-driven insights.
Can you describe a project that you are working on?
During one of our projects in the healthcare sector, I examined data in R on a particular disease to assess its progression, medication intake, and related outcomes. The goal was to visualize the results in a way that supports the development of future treatment plans and patient care improvements. This analysis provided key insights into how treatment strategies could be adjusted based on patient response. The project emphasized the importance of data-driven decision-making in improving healthcare outcomes.
What makes the project interesting and what are the challenges?
The opportunity to work with real-world healthcare data provided valuable insights into disease progression and patient outcomes, offering a chance to apply statistical techniques in a meaningful way. Effectively communicating complex relationships between variables through visualizations, while avoiding oversimplification, can be a challenge when working with data. To address this, we focused on creating clear, data-driven visualizations that highlighted key trends while maintaining the necessary detail to ensure accuracy and depth.
Finally, what makes STAT-UP special?
What makes STAT-UP unique is its inclusive atmosphere, where each team member’s input is valued, while offering varied and exciting projects that combine data science with statistical knowledge. The strong sense of teamwork, coupled with an emphasis on constant learning, makes for a dynamic and enriching work environment.
