Emission calculation based on API MPMS 19.1 & 19.2

Emission calculation based on API MPMS 19.1 & 19.2

As we know the South East Asia has strong growth in population. Consequently, the residential areas are moving closer to industrial facilities. So in order to maintain a good level of acceptance, it is important for tank operators to solve the odor issue as soon as possible.

Our customer had fixed roof tank (*without any kind of internal floating roof) storing Jet Fuel with only 8.7m3 of emission p.a. that has caused strong odor pollution in a residential area more than 2km away from the tank. (See table below.)

Looking more closely at the table, if the same tank in Detroit, MI then it could emit only a third compared to Bangkok (Thailand). The reason behind it, the emissions drastically increase due to higher temperature and/- or stronger solar radiation in South East Asia.

In this situation, VACONO proposed a clear span aluminum dome in conjunction with a high quality internal floating roof equipped with an appropriate sealing system, which reduced emission by over 97% (~an absolute minimum).

The required dome

? designed simpler and less expensive as it did not require sealing against the tank wall and other design details to maintain pressure.

? as usual our dome is a modular and bolted construction.

? it combined with a free vent.

In outcome, the odor dissipated in the air around the tank within a very small radius and thus not irritate residents, who are living nearby the facility.
