Silicon Valley Bank collapse spells more trouble for emerging market VC activity

EMIS looks back on some of the most significant deals throughout February 2023.

Equifax, a global information solutions provider, has agreed to take over Brazilian credit bureau Boa Vista Servicos for BRL 4.24bn (USD 815mn). The purchase price of BRL 8.00 (USD 1.54) per share represents an 89% premium to Boa Vista's closing stock price on 15 December 2022.

Brazil Chemical Sector Insights

Brazil’s chemical sector ended 2022 with net revenues of USD 187bn, up by 27.3% y/y (or BRL 969.4bn, up by 24% y/y), on the back of elevated prices and strong demand for chemical products. The sector plays an essential role in Brazil’s economy, and it represented 3.1% of the country’s GDP in 2021, according to estimates by the Brazilian Chemical Industry Association (ABIQUIM). Nonetheless, Brazil’s chemical sector is heavily dependent on foreign inputs to function.
