Emily Smith, Our Featured RSW for November

Hi, everyone.

I am excited to share with you another amazing associate for this November edition of the Rehabilitation Support Worker Profile blog.

Thank you to everyone who liked, commented on, and shared my previous about Wes Hortop. For those of you who haven’t read my other RSW profiles, here’s some background.  I’ve decided to spotlight the amazing Rehabilitation Support Worker Associates whom we partner with at Bartimaeus Rehabilitation Services.  They don’t often receive the public recognition that they deserve for positively impacting so many lives. Hopefully, these blog articles will change that!

It is a pleasure to introduce you to Emily Smith.

For Emily, her greatest passion is making a difference in people’s lives through her work.  She started s a Rehabilitation Support Worker Associate for Bartimaeus in August, but this isn’t the first time getting her feet wet! She has had numerous opportunities for building her experience as a Physiotherapist Assistant and Occupational Therapist Assistant for many organizations.

Emily pursued her passion for helping people by taking the Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist Assistant Program at Collège Boréal in Sudbury. Si vous vous demandez, she is also fluently bilingual in both French and English.  She is certified in First Aid and knowledgeable in motion exercises, stretches, hydrotherapy, and electrotherapeutic techniques.

The best part of the job for Emily is understanding the impact of her work through the people she helps.

She loves when clients start to realize that they are getting better than where they were before. Emily’s clients appreciate the fact that she is early before a meeting, thorough in her work, and always has a friendly personality.

When she isn’t at work, she loves being with her fiance and dog. She also enjoys hobbies such as baking and exploring the outdoors. Being a lifeguard is another one of Emily’s passions. She has been a lifeguard and swim instructor for almost 10 years, which motivated her to pursue this field.

When Emily was a child, her passion for swimming made her at a young age want to teach others to swim. She recalled the story of a man that would swim around lunchtime at a place where Emily worked in her hometown. One day he stopped showing up. The man suffered a stroke and wanted to relearn how to swim again. This made Emily determined to help him as much as she could, and started doing research. She noticed the term physiotherapy when researching and realized that this was what she wanted to do in life.

The great part about this story is that Emily managed to help the man learn to swim to almost his normal capacity which they were both satisfied. She continues to make a difference in people’s lives every day.

Thank you, Emily, for the hard work and dedication you show to all of your clients.

You are a key part to our team and I look forward to continue seeing the difference you make to the lives you touch.
