EMG strip guiding systems: (3) Three-roller steering stand – Type SRHT
In this and in the following articles of this series, we summarize know-how on the use of EMG strip guiding systems and try to give you the necessary basics for the planning of the applicable components and for the design of the systems.

Strip guiding in front of a side trimmer with three-roll steering unit type SRHT
Especially in front of trimming shears, a highly precisely controlled strip position is the prerequisite for optimum trimming results with minimum material loss at the same time. At this point a correction of the strip position without deflection rolls is necessary. For high strip tensions and/or big strip thicknesses, this requirement is achieved by using an SRHT three-roll steering frame from EMG. A good steering effect requires sufficient adhesion between the strip and the rolls. The adhesion on its part is determined both by the roll diameter and the immersion depth of the middle roll.
Functional principle
The swivelling frame with the three rolls shown in the figure is guided via two steering levers in such a way that a desired angle formation between the strip and the roll axis (I component) and lateral displacement of the strip (P component) is achieved. In addition to obtaining the exact position of the strip at the exit, a centring effect is also achieved at the shear entry.
The application shown in the figure with a very short entry distance can only be realised in combination with an upstream strip guiding system. As already mentioned, the highest requirement is the guiding accuracy of the strip in front of trimming shears. On the one hand, the width of the edge to be cut off must be kept as small as possible, and on the other hand, there must be a defined minimum width to prevent the cut edge from tearing off. The better the strip position is controlled, the smaller the excess width of the incoming strip can be applied for safe operation. Material losses are thus kept within narrow limits.
