Scotland greenlights 560MW Green Volt floating offshore wind project

V?rgr?nn, a joint venture between Plenitude (Eni) and HitecVision, and Flotation Energy have secured offshore planning approval for their 560MW Green Volt floating offshore wind project in Scotland.

The offshore approvals follow the onshore consent obtained earlier this month. Green Volt now has all the necessary planning approvals and is poised to become the first commercial-scale offshore wind farm in Europe. The project is expected to begin operations in 2029 and will feature up to 35 floating wind turbines.

In November last year, the partners finalized exclusivity agreements for two floating offshore wind farms, the 560MW Green Volt and the 1.4GW Cenos, as part of Crown Estate Scotland’s leasing round.

Norway's H2Carrier aims to harness powerful Arctic winds for giga-scale green hydrogen project

Norwegian developer H2Carrier wants to build two large offshore wind farms in the northeastern part of Norway to produce green hydrogen and ammonia. The company plans to build 1.55GW of wind power capacity in the Finnmark region and produce 109,000 tonnes of green hydrogen and 610,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually.

The chosen location has strong winds, and the project will use a floating production unit designed by H2Carrier.

This unit will not require land, storage tanks, or pier construction, and will have its own desalination unit for water use. The project aims to have a significant impact on local and regional employment and value creation.
