EMERGING TECH: AI
Technology has always been a forward-looking industry, and there are currently many fascinating developments on its forefront.?Many of these practices rely on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in order to carry out tasks previously restricted to human operators. Robotic process automation, natural language processing, and autonomous control are some of the technologies leading innovation, all with heavy implications on the future of business.
WHAT IS AI?
In short, artificial intelligence is the practice of bringing computers as functionally close to the human brain as possible. For decades, we have automated many tasks with computers. However, traditional approaches to programming can falter when carrying out certain processes that are error-prone, abstract, and/or emotionally-based. To combat this, artificial intelligence aims to apply human characteristics of thought and decision-making to computers.?
There exists a large spectrum of AI, from simple focused algorithms to complex self-learning artificial general intelligence (AGI). Machine learning is a practice in AI that allows a program to optimize itself without the aid of humans. Organizations mostly use ML in a focused manner for task completion, but also plays a major role in the creation of AGI. Most of the artificial intelligence employed in business contexts is relatively simple. The programs are conservatively focused to protect customer information and company interests. AGI exists in far fewer applications and mainly serves to exhibit the current heights of technological advancement.
BASICS OF AI TECH
This won’t be a DIY robot manual, but we will cover some of the basics of emerging AI technologies to show you why they have an important role in our future.
ROBOTIC PROCESS AUTOMATION
This technology refers to the use of software bots, often focused algorithms, to complete various tasks. In order to prevent perceptive errors, this technology uses precise engineering to simulate intelligence for a focused task. Robotic process automation allows an organization to automate more difficult and ‘human’ tasks, while saving the resources and liabilities associated with AGI. This makes way for efficient business operations and maximizes the spend invested on digital infrastructure.
NATURAL LANGUAGE PROCESSING
Natural language processing (NLP) aims to solve another shortcoming of traditional computer programming. Programs often require the user to enter their inputs exactly in order to run tasks successfully. This usually happens in the form of typed or clicked commands. NLP offers an alternative to user interaction with computers by creating technology which can receive and analyze language similar to how humans sense and perceive it. Whether you type, write, or speak the text, artificial intelligence employs various indexing and referencing techniques to properly extract its meaning. This helps it understand more of the abstract and nuanced nature of language as well as push past erroneous or incomplete data inputs.
AUTONOMOUS CONTROL
AI can exist solely as software on computers, but it can also extend to machines controlled by computers. Any machine or robot that isn’t fully and directly manipulated by humans is to some degree operated by artificial intelligence. People have used AI to go about their life for decades; driving a car with an automatic transmission is a perfect example. The computer connected to the transmission reads data from the engine and wheels in order to choose the correct gear. Automobile tech has increased greatly since the first auto trans; innovations like lane monitoring and automatic braking only further the need for high quality artificial intelligence. Perhaps one of the most popular of these innovations is autonomous driving, which sees massive R&D and consumer desire.
Autonomous driving will require extreme precision and accuracy to become viable on a large scale. We are not always so forgiving with our beloved computers (think wiped hard drives and 99% downloads cancelling); the system would have to prove quite flawless to garner widespread approval. This will take a tremendous effort by very talented engineers and programmers, as they push the bounds of reliability, precision, and accuracy. Automotive companies such as Tesla and GM have seen impressive progress with their self-driving projects, but there are still vast improvements to be made before we expect a future populated by autonomous vehicles.

BUSINESS IMPLICATIONS OF AI
The advantages of proliferating industries with artificial intelligence are numerous. You will conserve your team’s bandwidth by automating tasks with AI software. This energy-saving practice will allow your team to focus on more higher-order processes. If your AI is well built and used correctly, you may even notice less mistakes or errors throughout the task. However, since many AI-powered technologies are relatively simple, your team’s management can make all the difference in their efficacy. This means feeding neat and usable data into the program as well as monitoring its output and adjusting its execution as you see fit.
Natural language processing helps businesses by disseminating data so their systems can process it correctly. This can be especially critical for customer support, since many of the chat bots used today have difficulty understanding questions. A question doesn’t even have to be abstract in nature; you could simply word it in a weird way that the bot cannot understand. Improving the way that artificial intelligence processes language can lead to further applications of AI in business as well as vast advancements in current AI technologies in use.
While there is certainly a strong consumer desire for autonomous control, corporations also have much to benefit from the practice. While providing autonomously-controlled end products will be a vast portion of the market’s use of AI, another impressive potential of autonomous control exists in manufacturing and production activities of companies. Many physical-product producers turn to heavy machinery and complex engineering techniques to create their commodities and services. These systems require management and monitoring to run successfully, and AI may replace much of the human operations required in the future. Especially with the advent of machine learning, the efficiency and accuracy of mechanical processes has a great upside with artificial intelligence.
STAFFING THE FUTURE’S AI WORKFORCE
Whether it’s a simple bot or an advanced AGI, artificial intelligence requires talented and experienced professionals to create and manage. Even the simplest of AI may be used for a very important function, so it’s very important to ensure a program works properly and is reliable before incorporating it into your business. If your company wants to begin or continue AI initiatives, you can certainly internally source the right individuals for the job. However, this may be costly and take lots of time, which can be antithetical to the reason artificial intelligence exists in the first place: to provide ease to humans. To solve this, you can using a staffing firm to find the right professionals in a timely manner. Many firms have a strong presence in IT and digital engineering, so rest assured that your project will be completed on time, in budget, and with exceptional quality.
