EMERGING OPTICAL ACCESS NETWORK TECHNOLOGIES FOR 5G WIRELESS
With the advent of Radio Access Networks (RAN) more
and more wireless connectivity is on the go for data sharing or
telephony. So, in this paper the emerging optical access network
(OAN) techniques are discussed that will support 5G for high
capacity, low latency and low cost/power per bit. More discussions on
high capacity passive optical network (PON) like 100 Gbit PON will be
reviewed. In addition to this finally advanced modulation and
detection techniques, DSP for OAN, efficient mobile fronthaul
techniques and RAN-PON coordination are discussed for increasing
the efficiency of OAN for wireless 5G.
