Emerging infectious diseases
Emerging infectious diseases (EIDs) are infections that have recently increased in incidence or geographic range, or have the potential to do so. These diseases often present significant public health challenges, as they may be caused by new or evolving pathogens, or be associated with changing environmental, social, or ecological factors. EIDs can be caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi, or parasites, and can spread rapidly in an increasingly connected world. With ongoing environmental changes, increasing human population, and constant global movement, new infectious diseases are likely to emerge in the future. Continuous investment in research, surveillance, and preparedness is essential to mitigate the impact of these diseases.
