THE EMERGING GLOBAL ORDER POST COVID-19

COVID-19 AND REWRITING THE CODE OF GLOBALISATION

The unemployment number is rising in the US while China is not losing steam - you know why? US Corporate Executives, out of corporate greed and pursuit of exponential growth in profit which points to "performance" at every 365 days financial cycle have outsourced all production to China, leaving their home country and abandoning their productive infrastructure and blue-collar workers and giving China her creative codes given China's cheap labour and large market without realising that they were, by this action, fast losing competitive advantage. Today, China controls most of the world's critical supply chains from drugs supplies to household goods supplies and warehouses the production centres of major US technology businesses while China pursues an aggressive reverse-engineering agenda that today puts China in the lead on space, satelite and 5G technology as China moves to dominate Hitech-production having doominated primary and secondary production.

ON THE HEELS OF COVID-19 - CHINA IS TAKING CHARGE AND THE US IS REACTING

Today, the American President thanks China for supplying medical equipment for battling Covid-19 - from test-kits to protective gear and ventilators; an interesting scenario that seems more like a reversal of fortune. Would this have been possible 30 years ago before the current code of globalisation was written by the US?

AFRICA'S PLACE IN THE RAT-RACE POST COVID-19

There is no gainsaying the fact that Africa continues to play the role of the poor cousin of the West and East having lost two decades - the 1970s and the 1980s - to wars and incessant military interregnums which reversed the promise of the 1960s when most African countries gained independence. So, while Nigeria, China, Korea, and Malaysia were all classified as developing Countries in 1960, today, 60 years after, Nigeria's Asian counterparts have all moved up and are riding high while we have not only stagnated but are now dependent on erstwhile peers for survival even as China - a Country that was in the throes of mass-starvation in the 1950s and 1960s - is set to assert itself as the new global superpower.

COVID-19 IS NOT JUST A COMMUNICABLE DISEASE, IT IS CERTAINLY A MILESTONE

Sure, we may all be heading for a global economic recession or even a depression when all the social distancing and lockdowns from Covid-19 is over, but a few wise nations such as China and Germany who have retained their strategic industries and sources of competitive advantage at home are certain to ride the storm as the reset button on globalisation is pressed and a new reality emerges. It's time for Nigeria, and by extension Africa, to rethink its place in global affairs, otherwise, the next 60 years may return us to the status of colonised nations - maybe not in a political sense but more from an economic perspective.

Your view point is casting light in the right perspective. Much as I'll like to agree with you, I do believe the war is far from being over. For the first time the US is caught reacting rather than leading an onslaught as they are known. Perhaps they failed to heed the warning of George Bush jnr some years back. Remember, about 75% of global Hi-Tech giants are mainly US companies - Apple, Microsoft, Facebook, GE, Google, Intel, etc. I ask, what happens if they halt these outsourced processes and pull out from China? What impact would China feel? Do they have global market share that would sustain them in an envisaged all out competition war?? Many analyst are of the opinion that China has sent US to ICU while she is up matching into territories for control. This is true too, but has it crossed our minds that China is unwittingly taking the entire world in this fight? Pointers are that COVID-19 is an attempt by China to overrun the world withhout shooting a bullet. But how far it can manage the large spoils of war is left to the days ahead to tell.
