Emergency 'Remote Pilot' Interface
Emergency Remote Interface research project to support single pilot operations
Single pilot commercial aviation??As part of a major research project, we are involved in the HMI development of a future working position.
Two of our students were commissioned by DLR to design a so-called 'safety-critical interface' for the remote support of scheduled flights with only one pilot on board scheduled aircraft.?
The interface - developed for specially trained co-pilots - is intended to enable them to provide immediate assistance to the 'flying pilot' in emergencies.?
This innovation will make the aviation of the future safer and more efficient by providing the best possible assistance to the pilot.?
The project will now be further developed and tested at the DLR in Braunschweig after the completion of the thesis at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences.
The interdisciplinary project of design, engineering and UX research shows the outstanding results that can come from combining applied design research, aviation research and pilot involvement.
