Embracing Your Inner Confidence: Overcoming Imposter Syndrome with Class and Sass

Imposter Syndrome - two words that strike fear into the hearts of many professionals, especially women. It's that nagging feeling that you're a fraud, that you don't belong in your role, and that you'll be exposed sooner or later. But here's the secret: imposter syndrome is widespread, and you're not alone. Some of the most successful people you admire have battled it at some point in their careers.

For many women, imposter syndrome starts when we are little girls and is something I call "The Good Girl Syndrome." Most little girls growing up are told to be "the good girl." Be a good girl, get good grades, have good friends, go to a good college, find a good mate or partner, be a good team player, be a good wife, mom, cook, home manager, etc.

This good girl syndrome leads to "perfectionism" and that nagging feeling that I am not good enough because I am not perfect (fill in the blank). The challenge is that no one is perfect. Here is the definition of perfectionism and why it harms many women.

"Perfectionism is a personality trait characterized by someone having overly high expectations of perfection in everything, combined with being overly considered with what other people think and overly self-critical.

As women, we need to learn to sing the song from Frozen, "Let it Go." Strive for excellence, not perfection. Focus on your strengths and learn to let go of trying to be perfect in everything you do.

Focus on your self-worth, which combines your self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-confidence. Practice building ?yourself up things like, "You got this girl," and "I can do anything I put my mind to accomplish."

The key to conquering imposter syndrome? Doing it with class and sass. Let's dive into how to embrace your inner confidence and show imposter syndrome who's boss.

1.??? Recognize That You're Not Alone: First and foremost, understand that imposter syndrome is a universal phenomenon. Even the most accomplished individuals have faced it. So, don't be too hard on yourself. Knowing that you're not alone in this struggle is the first step towards overcoming it with class.

2.??? Embrace Your Achievements: Take a moment to reflect on your journey. Celebrate your achievements, big and small. Create a list of your successes, skills, and experiences. This exercise will help you realize you've earned your place and are not an imposter.

3.??? Change Your Inner Dialogue: Imposter syndrome often stems from negative self-talk. Counteract this by replacing self-doubt with self-affirmation. Instead of saying, "I'm not qualified for this role," tell yourself, "I am capable and bring unique skills to the table."

4.??? Seek Mentorship and Support: Classy individuals don't hesitate to seek guidance and mentorship. Reach out to colleagues, mentors, or even professional networks. Share your feelings about imposter syndrome and ask for advice. How many people can relate and provide valuable insights will surprise you.

5.??? Embrace Failure as a Learning Opportunity: Sass is all about confidence, which comes from learning and growing. Instead of fearing Failure, see it as a stepping stone towards success. Each setback is a chance to become better and wiser in your field.

6.??? Set Realistic Expectations: Don't set yourself up for Failure by setting unrealistic expectations. Understand that nobody is perfect, and mistakes are a part of life. Striving for excellence is admirable, but remember that perfection is unattainable.

7.??? Practice Self-Care: Taking care of your physical and mental well-being is essential to overcoming imposter syndrome. Make time for self-care activities that rejuvenate your spirit and boost your confidence. My mantra is "Self-care is not selfish, it is survival."?

8.??? Share Your Story: Sassiness is about embracing your uniqueness and standing tall in your truth. Consider sharing your imposter syndrome journey with others. You'll not only inspire those who are going through it but also reinforce your own self-belief.

9.??? Keep a Success Journal: Maintain a journal documenting your successes, compliments, and positive feedback from colleagues and superiors. This tangible record can be a powerful reminder of your achievements during moments of doubt.

10. Fake It 'Til You Make It or Do It Till You Own It: Sometimes, acting confidently, even when you don't feel it, can help you overcome imposter syndrome. This doesn't mean pretending to be someone you're not but rather stepping into your role with courage and conviction.

Imposter syndrome can be a formidable adversary but can be conquered with class and sass. Remember that you're not alone, and your achievements are indisputable. By changing your inner dialogue, seeking support, and embracing your uniqueness, you can silence the imposter within and shine confidently in your professional journey.

So, embrace your inner confidence, and let your class and sass lead the way to success!
