Embracing the Void: A journey of growth and renewal for Mental Health

In my work as a coach and through my own experiences, I’ve learned a profound truth: at every stage of life, we encounter a void. This void is a shared experience, though rarely spoken about. It’s that unsettling feeling of not quite fitting in our own skin, a sense of inadequacy. Yet, I’ve come to understand that this void is not a flaw—it’s a call for expansion.

The void can appear during times of change or even when life seems steady. It feels like we’re falling short, that something is missing, or that we don’t belong. Often, we internalise the critic within, convincing ourselves that we’re not enough—our bodies, our achievements, our relationships. We feel we should be further along, more seen, or more valued.

But what if the void is actually a space of curiosity, inviting us to explore what lies beyond our current understanding? It’s an opportunity to stay open to new spiritual, mental, social, and even financial possibilities. A mentor once told me, “Sit still.” In those words, I found a guiding truth: in stillness, the void speaks. It teaches, it nudges us to grow.

Now, at 46, I recognise that expansion can be a stretch. But this time of change also allows us to enter new phases of life with grace and acceptance. Life is a cycle of small deaths and rebirths—letting go of old identities to make space for the new.

To those reading this, I encourage you to embrace the void when it arrives. Sit with it, even when it feels uncomfortable. You are not broken or behind. The void invites you to release the old with love and welcome the new with open arms.

On this Mental Health Day, let’s recognise the void as a natural part of the journey. Let’s meet it with curiosity, allowing it to reveal the next chapter in its own time.

Is it ok for us to stay curious and open for something to be revealed? What are your thoughts?

Well said, Tina. I completely agree. It may be hard sometimes to see this void as an opportunity for new things, and that is the tricky part. However, we should always remain open to new opportunities and embrace different perspectives that can broaden our horizons.

Your text is so powerful! It takes lots of inner think and self consciousness to get to a stage where we are able to link our void with our strenghts and the best we can take from it! Keep pushing please!
