Embracing Sustainability as a Resolution

As #entrepreneurs , we must take it upon ourselves to look for the best ways to become sustainable. Since we are at the forefront, it is our responsibility to take this essential step towards building sustainable #success and introduce it to our teams as a corporate value. We therefore decided to strengthen our already existing commitment to sustainability-related matters this year, by further promoting Corporate Social Responsibility among our employees, clients and #business partners, as we’d like everybody to get on board.?


Embracing #sustainability in the workplace should be among all businesses’ New Year resolutions, as it allows them to leave a positive impact on both the #environment and the people, and I strongly believe everything starts with education and awareness. It’s the first step in the right direction, and I feel it is our responsibility to pave the way towards a more sustainable #future .


For starters, consumer #awareness of sustainable organizations is rising. Studies have demonstrated that nowadays, consumers would rather deal with companies that are sustainable, which is part of the reason businesses have had to adjust to sustainable methods that safeguard the environment, the workers, and the #clients all together.


At Spinneys, we make sure to demonstrate our social responsibility to give way to an environmentally conscious lifestyle. We do that by promoting green initiatives, supporting projects that preserve our planet and its resources, and working with several charitable events and causes. A few examples of that in our stores are the fact that we use reusable paper in our printed communications, we introduced shopping trolleys and hand baskets made of biodegradable PET plastic materials, we reduced the use of paper and label usage, we use an automatic power saving mode for our devices, and every-saving light bulbs in all our locations. We’ve also began installing solar panels, which will further reduce our carbon footprint. We also encourage our customers to recycle their plastic bottles, and donate their unwanted clothes at our locations so we all can make a difference together.


Another initiative we feel passionate about as a grocery store is the urging issue of food waste and its consequences, especially amid the tumultuous times the Lebanese people are going through, which is why we have taken it upon us to tackle UN Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger, by collaborating with an NGO dedicated to the cause of reducing hunger. We make sure to donate food to different organizations around the country who then distribute it to underprivileged individuals. I strongly believe each business should start tackling the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations and that humanity has to achieve before 2030, as it is only together that we can make a change.

Sustainability doesn’t end here though; Spinneys ensures to incorporate the social aspect of it all as well and that’s all done for our people.

When your organization is socially sustainable, it means you’ve put in policies in place that empower your workers by creating a healthy climate for current and future generations.

Applying the DEI only is not enough to have a healthy and sustainable workforce, putting people at the center of your business by creating a healthy and safe environment, equal opportunity for people to stand out and express themselves, promote learning, and more and more to list are the key factors to achieve this goal.
