Embracing Sustainability in Floristry: Sabine Darrall's Eco-Friendly workshop in Dublin.

Today I had the pleasure of attending a Sustainable, Eco-Friendly Floral Workshop with Sabine Darrall. As soon as I arrived, I felt invigorated by the passion with which Sabine spoke about what it truly means to be a sustainable florist.

Sustainability has become a hot and divisive topic in the floristry industry. It seems as though there are those who are afraid of change and others who are quick to pass judgement. However, every small step towards being more eco-friendly is a positive one. It is important to encourage change and share knowledge, rather than shame or make someone feel guilty for their current practices.

Sabine’s attitude towards sustainability was refreshing, and she shared many clever tips and tricks with the audience. Her sustainable mechanics were particularly interesting. Throughout the workshop, Sabine taught us how to create a range of beautiful arrangements, including a deconstructed arch made from pipe and drape system, chicken wire and tubes, an urn arrangement with chickenwire, a table scape on a piece of wood using a few different methods, and a vase arrangement using a Gupi.?

One of the things I appreciated about the day was the inclusivity of the experience. Sabine used both Irish grown flowers and imported ones, highlighting the importance of making informed decisions and the potential for making positive change in smaller, more achievable steps.

Overall, the workshop was an inspiring and informative experience. Sabine gave her undivided attention to the audience and was more than willing to share her expert knowledge. It was clear that her passion for sustainability in floristry goes beyond just practicing it herself, it extends to educating others and encouraging the industry as a whole to embrace more environmentally responsible practices.

In conclusion, attending Sabine’s Sustainable, Eco-Friendly Floral Workshop was a great day. I left feeling energised and excited having met lots of people I knew from online, lots of customers of Van Der Plas and lots of new people.

Van Der Plas makes a huge effort to ensure every moving part of its chain is sustainable, making changes all the time in an effort to become more eco-friendly. Learn all about our efforts to ensure best practices are used throughout our service here

It was lovely to meet you fiona at the Sustainable Eco-Friendly Floral Workshop, with Sabine Darrell, it was such a fantastic day and i think there was over 70 florists from all over Ireland there, loved the demonstrations with the different mechanics, we all need to embrace change, and do our bit for the planet, but it takes time, and any change you can make is a step in the right direction, it's a true saying you never stop learning ??

I was so disappointed that I couldn't make it to this (I had a wedding). I just love the tutorials on her website; hopefully she'll come back again soon.
