In a world where every second counts and being constantly connected is the norm, I’ve chosen a different path—one that might surprise you. This morning, at precisely 6:30 AM, I attended a BNI Business Network International meeting. Nothing unusual about that, right? Except, I woke up at 4:40 AM, got ready, and headed out without a watch on my wrist.
You see, I’ve discovered something profound in the absence of timekeeping: freedom. My mornings are no longer dictated by the tick-tock of a clock but by the natural flow of my day. This small change—no longer wearing a watch—has significantly reduced the stress in my life. Studies have shown that not constantly checking the time can lead to a more relaxed state of being, and I’ve found this to be undeniably true.
But that’s not all. My decision to avoid social media and limit exposure to world news has had an equally transformative effect. During the pandemic, I made the conscious choice to disconnect from the noise—the endless debates, the political rants, and the relentless stream of global crises. Instead, I focused on what I could control: my own life and my well-being.

Interestingly, LinkedIn has become my go-to platform for staying informed, but in a way that aligns with my values. Here, I find updates on the economy, stock markets, innovation, and AI—topics that genuinely interest me and add value to my day. The beauty of LinkedIn is its professional atmosphere, free from the negativity that can be so pervasive elsewhere. If something does cross the line, it’s easy enough to block it and move on.
The real lesson here is the power of simplicity. By removing the constant pressure of time and the noise of social media, I’ve become more productive, more focused, and—perhaps most importantly—more content. There’s research to support this too: a less stressful life is a more productive one. Incorporating mindfulness practices like meditation and yoga only enhances this effect, leading to greater overall well-being.
So, here’s a thought: What if you tried it? What if, just for a day, you put down your watch, avoided the endless scroll of social media, and tuned out the world’s chaos? You might just find, as I have, that life becomes a little bit lighter, a little bit simpler, and a whole lot more enjoyable.
