Embracing the Right Insights: A Personal Journey

Throughout my journey of serving others and pursuing my goals, I often navigated a tricky landscape in the past.
The balance between achievements and maintaining relationships can be delicate, and I often found myself bending over backwards to please others. In this process, I realised that it was all too easy to become someone who allowed others to take advantage, especially when you feared upsetting those around you.
The only thing this often did was feeling frustrated and unfulfilled.
The turning point came when I heard something so profound at the right moment in which I needed to hear it which struck a powerful chord: “Do you want to make money to help those you aim to serve, or do you want to make friends?” This question shifted my entire perspective. It made me understand that, fundamentally, I was running a business. My brand wasn't just about my values and passions; it was also a commodity that I needed to manage effectively.
This is why I chose to separate my philanthropic endeavours from my business. While I’m passionate about giving back, I recognised that people often sought my skills through my mental wellbeing work, which clearly blurred the lines of my professional identity. By delineating my philanthropic efforts from my business, I could serve both purposes more effectively. It allowed me to engage with those in need while also ensuring that my skills and services were valued and compensated appropriately.
I learned that treating my work as a business allowed me to serve others more effectively. When I approached my goals with the mindset of a business owner, I started to set clear boundaries, make informed decisions, and ultimately created a greater impact. It became about recognising the value I brought to the table and understanding that, in order to truly help others, I needed to maintain my own sustainability.
