Semi-retired … it’s a bit boring isn’t it.
This is how many who have reduced their work hours but haven't stopped working entirely will describe themselves. The see themseives as semi-retired as they may be phasing out of the workforce or taking on less-demanding roles. But it's quite generic, which might be fine or not!
So, let’s consider some alternatives … do any appeal to you?
How about …
Active Ager: This term encompasses individuals who maintain an active and vibrant lifestyle even beyond their retirement age. They seek out diverse activities and experiences that keep them engaged, such as traveling, participating in sports, joining social clubs, or exploring new hobbies. Active Agers prioritise staying physically fit, mentally stimulated, and socially connected, embracing a fulfilling and dynamic retirement.
Consultant: Retirees with a wealth of professional knowledge and expertise often transition into the role of a consultant. They use their years of experience to provide specialised advice and guidance to businesses, organisations, or individuals. As consultants, they offer their services on a project basis, allowing them the flexibility to choose projects that align with their interests while staying professionally engaged and contributing their valuable insights.
Part-Time Professional: Some retirees opt to continue working in their chosen profession but on a part-time basis. By reducing their work hours, they strike a balance between enjoying their retirement and maintaining a connection to their field.
