During the COVID-19 pandemic, most organizations switched to remote or hybrid working and this completely changed the way work is done today by providing unmatched flexibility. To ensure a smooth transition as organizations adapt to a future where remote and hybrid work arrangements are preferred, it is important to have an objective way of determining whether such arrangements are suitable for an organization.
Below are some of the factors to consider:
● Nature of work: Managers and employees must consider whether certain tasks can be performed remotely without negatively affecting the quality of work of service delivery to the client. For example, a nurse in a hospice cannot perform the duties of taking care of a patient remotely while an IT specialist can offer support services remotely.
● Availability tools of work: An organization must consider the availability of tools of work that are required for employees to perform their duties remotely e.g. availability of laptops, quality headphones for a Customer Support staff for example.

● Structures: This comprises a proper way of setting goals and measuring performance; There should be a clear communication channel as well as reporting tools.
● Policy: All the above can only be successfully operationalized if they are supported by clear guidelines on what is permissible in an organization. Policies should be clear on the conditions that go in hand with remote or hybrid working arrangements.
● Feedback: When considering remote and hybrid arrangements, it is important to gather feedback from the people working in an organization. Remember, they will be affected directly and a major determinant of success in change management is the involvement of all stakeholders.
In conclusion, adopting remote and hybrid work arrangements requires understanding the unique needs of a business and those of its people. Organizations may establish inclusive work environments that take into account the diverse needs of all employees by utilizing technology, fostering open communication, and finding the correct balance between online and in-person interactions.
