Mastering the art of staying in the present moment serves as the best remedy for your emotional wellbeing. The journey of navigating a difficult pregnancy is often long and full of uncertainty. Our societal conditioning has grounded in us a preference for planning and attempting to control over most areas in our lives, leaving little room for uncertainty. Control creates a sense of security and certainty, fostering comfort and self-assurance. Yet, when we encounter circumstances that go beyond this familiar realm, we find ourselves filled with anxiety, stress, and fear. Our focus shifts toward an anxious contemplation of what the future may hold and the potential issues that could arise. Simultaneously, we dig in into the past, trying to identify what we did wrong, what we failed to predict or ask, etc. Entrapped within this pattern of reflection, fully immersing in the present moment becomes very difficult.
When faced with a diagnosis of a pregnancy complication, it's nearly inevitable to find oneself falling into this thinking trap. I too found myself involved in this cycle upon receiving news of my own pregnancy complication. In those moments, fear emerged as the strongest emotion, casting its shadow over everything else. The fear of losing my babies became a huge concern, amplified by the knowledge that my thoughts had the power to influence their well-being.
Conscious of this thought cycle and its potential impacts, I decided to take action and do something to get out of this thoughtful pattern. It was during this time that a book I had read in the past reappeared in my memory — "The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle. This book was a game changer for me and my companion throughout my journey, illuminating my journey with its wisdom.
Within its pages, I discovered a quote that resonated deeply, offering guidance for staying in the present moment: "Don’t look for peace. Don’t look for any other state than the one you are in now, otherwise you will set up inner conflict and unconscious resistance. The moment you completely accept your non-peace, your non-peace becomes transmuted into peace."
Armed with these insights, I embarked on a transformative journey towards embracing the present moment, transcending my fears, and finding peace in the midst of the uncertainty.
Mastering the art of staying in the present moment serves as a refuge from stress and fear. It allows you to:

?You might be wondering how to achieve presence while immersed in the trance of thought. Here is an approach I used during my pregnancy to get out of this thinking trance. Initially, upon identifying the current of thought, I quickly grabbed my book, and read this powerful paragraph that had a remarkable effect. ¨Unease, anxiety, tension, worry – all forms of fear - are caused by too much future and not enough present. ¨ This was the first step in directing my mind to the present moment.
