It has been nothing short of transformative for me to step away from the health department. Over the past 30 days, I have embarked on a journey of self-discovery and profound realizations that have reshaped my outlook on life, work, and personal well-being. The journey of self-discovery and transformation I've undertaken has been nothing short of life-altering. It's a testament to the profound influence we can have on our personal and professional lives if we step back. The lessons I've learned have been both intense at times AND practical, and I'm excited to share them with you.
1. The Power of Rest
First and foremost, I realized that my mind and body were crying out for rest, and finally, I listened. My sleep has been life-changing, offering rejuvenation that I didn’t realize I desperately needed. It's a stark reminder that we are not machines; we are human beings, and rest is not just a luxury—it's a necessity. Prioritize self-care—it’s not a luxury; it’s essential.
2. Acknowledging My Worth
I’ve come to a powerful realization: I am really THAT good! Yeah, I’m gifted and talented, and in real-world terms, I’m all that and a bag of chips (Millennials you get it, LOL). I am a bag of red Doritos or Funyuns (my favorites) LOL.?? My skills and abilities are not just learned and earned but gifts from God. To underutilize them or dim my light is a disservice to the divine purpose I’m called to fulfill. Neglecting using them is disrespecting the essence of what makes each of us unique. Embrace your talents and let them shine for the glory of God/your higher power or for the benefit of others! Shine brightly, for it honors the divine within you.
3. Trusting My Intuition
I’ve learned to trust my experiences and intuition. The things I saw, felt and heard were real, even if others were in denial. Trusting myself has been validating and empowering. More importantly, they guide each of us for a reason. Your intuition is a powerful guide.
4. Rethinking Leadership
Not everyone is meant to lead, and that’s okay. Leadership is a privilege that should be earned. True leaders serve and uplift their teams. It's a privilege that many take for granted, often for the sake of titles and paychecks. True leaders lead from within the team, not just from above. Be honest with yourself about where you belong.
5. Paying Attention to and Aligning with God’s Plan
God’s plan doesn’t always align with our timelines or carefully crafted SMART goals ??. Sometimes, our purpose is fulfilled, and it’s time to move on, even if we don’t feel ready. OR we often believe our work must be completed before we move on, but God's plan is often far grander than our own. Pay attention to the signs and signals around you. Sometimes, the best thing you can do is not to overstay your appointment.
6. Staying True to Myself
I FULLY UNDERSTAND that despite treating everyone with respect, some will still try to demean you. Even when treated poorly, I’ve learned to remember who I am and whose I am. My confidence and competence are unwavering because they are rooted in my faith and identity. My/Your worth should not be determined by the opinions of others. My people-pleasing self…. Has learned they will hate you for the very thing they hired you to do! It's funny to me! But...You are enough.
7. Relearning to Breathe
The hustle and bustle of daily life had me forgetting to breathe fully. I’m now relearning and retraining my habits to embrace mindfulness and presence in each moment. B.R.E.A.T.H.E. deeply.
B?- Be Present
R?- Relax Your Mind
E?- Enjoy the Moment
A?- Accept Your Feelings
T?- Take Your Time
H?- Honor Your Needs
E?- Exhale Stress
Each letter serves as a reminder to fully engage in breathing, not just as a physical necessity but as a moment of mindfulness and self-care.
8. Reaping the Benefits of Healthy Choices
My body is responding positively to lifestyle changes made earlier this year. I’m 25 pounds lighter, free from bags under my eyes, and enjoying meals without rushing. No more skipped meals or bathroom breaks to accommodate a hectic schedule. It's a testament to the power of taking care of ourselves. Health Is Wealth

9. Strengthening Relationships
With fewer work interruptions, my husband and I now enjoy longer, uninterrupted conversations. This has deepened our bond and brought us even closer together. The gut-wrenching laughter and needed intimacy are BACK, YALL. Yeah, I have to own this one... It's a precious gift to be fully present with our loved ones. It’s priceless.
10. Breaking Free from Time Constraints
I’m no longer tied to my watch or phone, constantly checking the time. This liberation has brought a sense of peace and freedom. Time isn’t just digits—it’s experiences waiting to unfold.
11. Setting Boundaries with Work
I’ve learned to close my laptop without checking my calendar or to-do list. It's a small act, but it symbolizes a significant shift in how I approach my life and work from this day forward. This eye-opening boundary-setting gives me a glimpse of a more balanced future. This temporary phase is a gift. Use it to shape your next chapter. There are no mistakes in divine timing.
This period of rest and reflection has been enlightening. It’s shown me how our environments impact our mental, physical, and social well-being. The present moment gets disrupted when we’re always focused on the next thing. I am deeply grateful for what’s to come and the lessons I’ve learned from what I’ve left behind. There are no mistakes in God’s timing.
