Embracing the opportunity to learn

Prior to starting an apprenticeship, I wasn't very familiar with the concept and didn't think it was an option for someone in my role.

However, my line manager brought the opportunity to my attention, and I was impressed by the experiences of other colleagues who were already enrolled. Through my course, I am currently studying for a degree in B2B Sales through Middlesex University and Consalia.

As a Sales Manager,?I work with a wide range of corporate clients across various industries, so my biggest concern when I signed up was balancing work and study, but I have been pleasantly surprised by the level of support from Whitbread and the provider, Consalia. With a dedicated study day each week, this has helped me maintain a healthy work-life balance.

One of the biggest surprises for me has been the level of enjoyment I've had from learning. I've been able to apply what I've learned in my day-to-day work and seeing the immediate impact has been incredibly motivating. I've also been proud of my achievements so far, including receiving firsts in all of my modules and being nominated for the Account Manager of the Year award in 2022.

My line manager has been a huge source of support, attending my quarterly review meetings with the university and providing guidance on my assignments. I also have the opportunity to share what I've learnt with the team and this has helped our department grow and improve.

For anyone considering an apprenticeship, my advice would be to be committed and open-minded. Don't be intimidated by the thought of balancing work and study or getting back into education. Embrace the opportunity to learn and reflect on how you can apply your newfound knowledge in both your professional and personal life.?
