Embracing New Chapters

It's that time of year again....graduation season is upon us! With my schedule absolutely packed this month with celebrations, it's brining me right back to last year when ALL THREE of my daughters graduated -- one from middle school (it counts), another from high school, and my oldest from law school. Seeing each of them embrace new chapters this past year has brought a mixture of pride, excitement, heartache, and a whole lot of change. It's impossible not to get swept up in the emotions that comes with big milestones and new chapters. It is also the perfect moment to reflect on what transitions can teach us in our journeys.

Here are a few insights that have been top of mind for me (and the Andree Girls) over this past year:

Embrace the New Beginnings

Just like each of my daughters embraced their new academic and career paths, every new project, venture, or adventure that comes into our lives is a chance for a fresh start. Approach each & every one of them with enthusiasm and an open mind. These opportunities are blank pages in your story, just waiting to be written....so make them good ones! Remember, new chapters can sometimes be unexpected or even a bit scary, but they hold the promise of growth and new experiences.

Preparation Meets Opportunity

Graduates don’t reach their big day without a ton of hard work and preparation. My younger girls spent countless hours on projects and exams, just as my newly minted lawyer tackled grueling hours studying for (and totally crushing!) the NY Bar. In business, success comes when preparation meets opportunity. Invest time in sharpening your skills, expanding your knowledge, and connecting with incredible people, so when the right opportunities arise, you're more than ready.

Celebrate Milestones

Far too many people are overly consumed with the "hustle" and don't pause long enough to soak it all in and to truly celebrate the wins. Make it a point to celebrate milestones in your business (and your life). Whether it's completing a big project, landing an A++ new client, or a big personal win, taking time to celebrate can boost your mood and motivate you and your team to keep the momentum going.

Learn from the Journey

Each of my daughters - and their mom - faced unique challenges both leading up to and in the months since graduation (parenting teens and 20-somethings is NO JOKE!!). When challenges come your way, as they will, take time to reflect on what each experience is trying to teach you. Embrace the lessons and learn from them. Trust me...if you don't learn the lessons you're meant to, that same challenge will keep popping up - over and over again - until you do!

Stay Curious and Keep Learning

My older girls have an insane quest for knowledge (I think they get that from their momma). They are always reading, learning new skills, and soaking in all they can. We should all seek to do the same. Cultivate a mindset of continuous learning and curiosity - for yourself and your team. Learn new skills, attend conferences (I'm headed to one today....who will I see at Wealth Management EDGE thus week?), and stay updated on industry trends. This keeps you and your business dynamic, engaged, and cutting-edge.
