Embracing My Introverted Asian Identity and Celebrating 10K Followers on Linkedin

Today marks a significant milestone for me as I reach 10 K followers on #LinkedIn. This journey has been filled with #challenges, #growth, and self-discovery, particularly as an introverted Vietnamese French Australian woman navigating the professional world.

As an introvert, I've always found it challenging to step out of my #comfortzone and put myself out there. Networking, self-promotion, and engaging in large social gatherings often drain my energy and leave me feeling overwhelmed. I started with 50 followers who were my friends a few years ago. I recall being embarrassed to share my wins... verbally not even mentioning on a digital platform.

However, I've learned that success doesn't necessarily require extroversion.

I am proud to have reached this milestone.

Being an Vietnamese woman has presented its own set of obstacles. I've faced unconscious biases, microaggressions, and the pressure to conform to stereotypes. I receive regularly unprofessional private messages, offensive comments. Do I need to say that I am used to it? This would be wrong to say so.

But I've also encountered allies, mentors, and a community of women who support and empower each other.

Throughout this journey, I've learned the importance of embracing my introversion and celebrating my Vietnamese heritage. I've discovered that my introverted nature allows me to be a thoughtful listener, a deep thinker, and a creative problem-solver. With my grey hair and experience I can also be an inspiration for younger women. My Vietnamese background has instilled in me a strong work ethic, a sense of resilience, and a deep appreciation for diversity.

In addition to these challenges, I've also faced criticism for my non-mainstream opinions. As the founder of #EQuestAsiaWomen, WOW -WonderfulOrdinary Women- and recently #VK Nu, a platform for Vietnamese women interested in their cultural identity, I've received comments questioning the platform's inclusivity. However, I've learned that holding non-mainstream opinions doesn't make me any less valid or valuable. In fact, it's often these non-mainstream perspectives that drive innovation, challenge the status quo, and lead to positive change.

To my fellow introverts, Asian women, and anyone who dares to challenge the norm, I say this:

"Your unique perspectives, experiences, and strengths are invaluable and deserve to be heard. Embrace your authentic selves, find allies who support your journey, and never stop advocating for your dreams."

As I celebrate this milestone, I'm incredibly grateful for the support and encouragement I've received from my husband, followers, mentors, daughters and colleagues. I'm committed to continuing to share my insights, connect with others, and contribute to a more inclusive and diverse professional landscape.

Thank you for being a part of this journey!
