Embracing Learning Moments at Kampala Sunrise Toastmasters Club meeting #130

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending the early Thursday morning meeting at the Kampala Sunrise Toastmasters Club, an experience I always look forward to. It is a one hour meeting at 6:20 AM and meeting #130 was nothing short of insightful, reminding me once again why Toastmasters is the heart of personal and professional development.

For those unfamiliar, a Toastmasters Club meeting is a space where members engage in various speaking roles, receive immediate feedback, and take on responsibilities that contribute to the overall success of the meeting. It's a learning laboratory a "gym" where members not only refine their public speaking skills but also enhance leadership abilities.

In this particular meeting, I took on the role of Table Topics Master, responsible for running the impromptu speaking segment. It's always a unique challenge to stimulate spontaneous speeches that keep members on their toes.

The meeting, hosted by the wonderful Toastmaster Angela Nsereko , centered around a captivating theme – "Do You Make Your Bed?" It's fascinating how such a simple question can lead to engaging discussions and insights.

My key Takeaways: Quotes that Resonated

Amidst the various speeches and roles, two quotes stood out, leaving a lasting impression:

1. "Deliver to dazzle" - Christine Nabiryo , DTM (Distinguished Toastmaster).

2. "If you cannot do the small things right, it will be very difficult to do the big things right" - TM Angela Nsereko (Soon DTM :) )

These words resonated with me, serving as powerful reminders of the importance of excellence in execution and attention to detail, even in the smallest tasks.

Learning Beyond Words: The Power of the Grammarian

In addition to the quotes, the Toastmasters meeting incorporated the role of the Grammarian, led by Joanita Nangobi . Her chosen word of the day was "Effectuate," a verb that means "To put into force or operation." A subtle yet impactful reminder to not just speak but to act and make things happen.

Looking Ahead: Gratitude for Learning Moments

As I reflect on Meeting #130, I am grateful for the learning moments and the camaraderie within the Kampala Sunrise Toastmasters Club. Each meeting is an opportunity to grow, contribute, and connect with like-minded individuals on a journey of continuous improvement.

Looking forward to the next meeting and the lessons it holds. Here's to the power of words, the joy of learning, and the supportive community that Toastmasters provides.
