As I mark this one-year anniversary, I invite you to reflect on your own journeys. If you are facing health issues, personal setbacks, or professional challenges. Remember that brokenness doesn’t signify the end. It can be the beginning of creating something more beautiful and resilient.
As an expressive art therapist, I strongly believed in the therapeutic power of art.
?
During this art session, I was prepared with teacups, a hammer, goggles, a bubble envelope, hot glue, and gold paint.
?
I was filled with mixed emotions when I broke each cup.? ?Breaking these cups felt amazing but scary.? ?
When I started to put them back together, I wanted to create something entirely new. It might have been because of my own journey by not trying to return to my old self but building a new version of myself.
Once the pieces were placed where I wanted them to be.? I got out the gold paint and brush.? I started by covering the cracks and broken pieces with the gold.? It was so beautiful to see the transformation.? I felt so happy with the end results.
?
?
Let's celebrate our scars and imperfections as symbols of our strength and resilience. Let’s embrace the art of breaking and rebuilding, and the beauty that comes from it.
?
?
Note:
This technique inspired by Kintsugi, a Japanese art form. Broken pottery is repaired with lacquer mixed with gold. The golden seams don't repair the object; they add a new beauty and strength.

8 个月Dear Janet, Your poignant observation that each crack and scar narrates a tale of survival and rebirth eloquently underscores the intrinsic beauty of resilience. It's akin to the Japanese art of Kintsugi, where broken pottery is mended with gold, celebrating imperfections as part of a unique history. Let us indeed embrace our flaws, for they are the shimmering badges of our life's journey, signifying strength, perseverance, and a radiant emergence from adversity.
