I am thrilled to share a personal milestone on my wellness journey since Oct 2023. This wouldn't have been possible without the invaluable support and guidance of my dear friend, Rorion Gracie.
Rorion Gracie is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, martial artist, and co-founder of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He is a member of the legendary Gracie family, known for their pioneering work in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Rorion is credited with popularising Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the United States.
From Roots to Page: Unveiling the Gracie Diet's Origin and the Birth of Its Book
The "Gracie Diet", developed by Grand Master Carlos Gracie over 65 years, emphasizes eating natural foods and combining them for optimal digestion. It's not about limiting what you eat, but rather how you mix foods. The key is to eat specific food groups together at each meal. You eat three meals a day, spaced about four and a half hours apart, without snacks in between. Proper food combining can prevent digestive issues and support weight management and overall health. Many people have found success with the Gracie Diet, reporting significant health improvements and relief from conditions like IBS and acid reflux.
Drawing upon Rorion family's deep-rooted knowledge and expertise in nutrition and martial arts and being part of the renowned Gracie family, Rorion had firsthand experience with the principles and practices of the Gracie Diet, which had been developed and refined by generations of his ancestors. Rorion combined this traditional knowledge with his own insights and experiences to articulate the principles of the Gracie Diet in a book format, sharing it with a wider audience interested in health, nutrition, and holistic wellness.
My Journey to Discovery and Introduction to the Gracie Diet
Struggling with reflux problems and related symptoms, I was seeking solutions when my husband introduced me to Rorion Gracie and the Gracie Diet. With hopes of improving my health through dietary changes, I started this new approach.
Rorion introduced me to the transformative principles of the Gracie Diet, providing me with insightful books, guidance, and encouragement every step of the way. His passion for optimal health and performance has been truly inspiring, and I am deeply grateful for his generosity in sharing his knowledge with me.
A principle of the Gracie diet is to keep blood pH level neutral by consuming appropriate or compatible nutrients at each meal with the help of combination. The diet is flexible to an extent but it prohibits consumption of pork, its derivatives, alcohol and tobacco.
Foods are separated into six groups:
Group A – Vegetables – greens, meat, seafood, fats, and oily foods
Group B – Starches
Group C – Sweet fruits and foods, fresh and creamy cheeses
Group D – Acidic fruits
Group E – Raw bananas

A glimpse into my experience
a. Timing between meals: I've made it a priority to follow the recommended timing between meals, and I've found it to be a great tip that I can manage with ease. ?
b. No snacks: Keeping to just 2-3 meals a day without snacks has become a manageable routine for me, with a success rate of 95%. ?
