2023 has been a journey of rediscovering the true value of time off and, I've been blessed with an increased presence of my incredible Mum and Dad, my guiding lights through 40 years of life's challenges and accomplishments.
Together, we've strolled down memory lanes, unraveling tales of triumph, resilience, and the beauty of life and learning across different eras.
Through their stories, I've gained a deeper understanding of my roots and invaluable lessons from the past. The wisdom they impart and the love they shower upon my stepchildren, Finn and Darcy, are supremely heartwarming, particularly through the emotional roller coaster of our last 12 weeks together.
This May half term especially, I have had the pleasure to witness the bond between my Mum and my stepchildren. Observing how the intergenerational connection creates a tapestry of shared experiences and perspectives that enriches the lives of everyone involved.
Together, with our needle and thread, we have weaved stories that bridge the gap between generations, nurturing empathy and fostering a different sense of belonging. A walking tour of Canterbury parallel with stories about my school, purple gown, multiple sports team antics, and camaraderie, a teenager eager to escape the little village of Ickham at any given opportunity, to highlight a few!
Storytelling becomes the thread that connects us all, allowing my stepchildren to understand and appreciate the world that came before them. The magic of hearing tales and cultural perspectives from different times and places opens their hearts and minds, igniting their curiosity and broadening their horizons - strolling along the White Cliffs of Dover and playing fetch with our furr-balls Finlay and Phoebe, with occasional wandering eyes to the Ice Cream Truck!
But it doesn't stop there! These moments of storytelling and memory sharing serve as a catalyst for my own personal growth and professional development.

By immersing myself in the experiences of different generations, I gain a broader perspective and a deeper appreciation for diverse viewpoints, remembering the power and presence of bringing different insights and perspectives around the same professional table to enhance outcomes and improve business and brand offers.?Not only that, it offers different perspectives and insight into my hyper-sensitive safeguarding, political and cultural lens.
As I soak up the wisdom and stories from my Mum and create new memories with Finn and Darcy, I find myself becoming a better leader, a more compassionate colleague, and a more empathetic human being.
This tapestry of generational connections weaves magic in all aspects of our lives, and I'm reminded how we at Participation People also do this by bringing young people and adults around the same table as equal partners - both audiences as experts in their field - young people, experts by experience; adults, experts in their profession.
Back at my desk, preparing to catch up with emails, finances, and team accomplishments, I write this post to remind me to embrace the power of storytelling. As it not only connects us to our past and lays the foundation for a brighter future. I'm looking forward to cherishing those intergenerational moments and watching as they transform my life, personally and professionally, more and more.
