Embracing Exploration and Innovation: My Summer Internship at Aesthetic Record LLC

This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to intern at Aesthetic Record an EMR and Practice Management Solution , an innovator in EMR and practice management, as a Data Operations and Visualization Intern. My journey has been one of exploration, innovation, and immense learning, significantly shaping my skills and experiences in data engineering.

In the first week, I focused on understanding the vast databases on the EMR platform and the existing data migration process from legacy EMRs to the Aesthetic Record Application. Developed by industry experts, this application is a superior solution tailored to user needs. My task was to ensure that migrating to this system is swift and efficient.

Our intern team brainstormed solutions to streamline the data migration process. The open and encouraging environment at Aesthetic Record allowed us to present ideas directly to the leadership, fostering a culture of innovation. This approach enabled us to devise strategies to enhance the database and automate the process using AWS.

One significant contribution was creating ETL processes for patient demographic data, appointments, and documents using AWS S3 and Glue. These efforts reduced migration time by two weeks, a substantial improvement. Additionally, I developed Python automation scripts for web scraping and document uploads, further enhancing operational efficiency.

Another major project I worked on individually was developing the Team Task Analysis Dashboard. Using word grouping in Python, I pre-processed data from chat support questions and categorized them based on keywords. This segmentation allowed us to visualize data effectively in the dashboard, which included various insights such as question frequency by category, platform usage, and geographical areas with concerns. Utilizing Tableau, I created a comprehensive dashboard that facilitated efficient task allocation. This integration is set to significantly improve future task management.

Every time I stepped into the office, I experienced the most welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. The diverse cultures at Aesthetic Record fostered collaboration. This environment allowed me to develop technical skills and taught me invaluable lessons about work culture. Attending the company’s semi-annual meeting offered excellent networking and team-building opportunities. I learned to communicate ideas effectively and grow both personally and professionally.

This internship allowed me to apply my previous work experience and concepts learned at UTD. From leveraging Python and AWS to honing my data engineering skills, I have grown tremendously. The supportive and innovative environment at Aesthetic Record LLC made this journey truly memorable.

I'm excited to continue working on impactful projects at Aesthetic Record and in future roles. The knowledge and hands-on experience I gained during this internship have prepared me to tackle new challenges and deliver results in any data engineering role.
