Embracing Equity and Tackling Unconscious Bias - IWD2023
International Women's Day is an opportunity to celebrate women's achievements and to advocate for gender equality. However, there is still much work to be done in breaking down gender bias and embracing equity in all aspects of society.
Gender bias can take many forms, from unconscious biases that affect our thoughts and actions to systemic barriers that limit women's opportunities and access to resources. This bias can manifest in the workplace, healthcare, education, and in our personal lives, often leading to unequal treatment and opportunities for women.
To tackle gender bias, we must first acknowledge and confront our own biases, both conscious and unconscious. This requires a willingness to listen to and learn from women's experiences, as well as a commitment to challenging harmful stereotypes and assumptions. By embracing equity, we can create a more inclusive and diverse society that values the contributions and perspectives of all individuals, regardless of gender.
We asked our Chandler Personnel team the below age-old riddle to test their unconscious bias:
Riddle: A father and?son?are in a horrible car crash, resulting in the fathers' immediate death.?The son is rushed to the hospital; just as he's about to go under the knife, the surgeon says, “I can't operate—that boy is my son!” In this case who is the surgeon?

Ultimately, the power of embracing equity lies in creating a world where women can thrive and reach their full potential, free from the constraints of gender bias and inequality. Let us celebrate International Women's Day by renewing our commitment to breaking down these barriers and creating a more just and equitable society for all.
