Embracing Equity To Build Successful Careers

Equity, a concept that has been overshadowed by, and mistaken for Equality in the recent past was the theme for this year’s women’s day forum organized by Allianz Lanka’s WIL ERG (Women In Leadership Employee Resource Group). In a quest to build an inclusive workplace, Allianz Lanka has taken several strides during the past few years. Empowering women and increasing the number of women in management roles have been our key priorities. Understanding the fact that Equality can only be achieved by practicing Equity, which is the fair distribution of resources based on the needs of each individual, this year’s Women’s Day forum focused on “Taking Charge of Getting the Career Women Want and Deserve”.

The forum featured two leading female professionals as speakers; Nadija Tambiah, Head of Legal and Company Secretarial functions of the John Keells Group, and Thanuja Jayawardene, Head of Women's Empowerment, Advocacy and Code of Conduct at MAS Holdings.

During the panel discussion, Ms. Thambiah spoke of the importance of women believing in themselves and taking charge of their life and career and the responsibility they also bear for the growth of the economy. Ms. Jayawardene spoke about the importance of actively working towards increasing women in management and advocating for women's health, safety, and well-being because it is necessary for the success of companies, communities and the economy.

Since its inception in March 2021, the WIL ERG committee of Allianz Lanka has been tirelessly working on empowering women both internally and externally by organizing several forums for staff, CSR activities targeting women and children and engaging activities around Breast cancer awareness, Mother’s Day and Men’s Day as well.

The WIL ERG team has lined up many exciting events and forums for the year targeted at motivating and developing women to take charge and build a career and the life that they want and deserve.
