Which is the one common trait in all successful leaders / entrepreneurs / founders?
?Its their Insane level of discipline.
Few of my heroes and their discipline moat -
- Satya Nadella- Cultural Transformation
- Elon Musk - Relentless work ethic
- Warren Buffet - Value investing philosophy
- Jeff Bezos - Customer Obsession
Each of them has built their unique "discipline moat" that has contributed to their success and the impact they've had on their respective industries.?
Discipline is not merely a skill that can be taught; it is a way of life, a mindset that reflects in everything we do. It embodies a no-nonsense attitude, especially when it comes to running a business. In the realm of serious entrepreneurship, complacency finds no place.
On the other side is "Chalta-hai" [antithesis of discipline]. Everyone has their own cheat days, but then it needs to be within the tolerance level, not impacting the larger objective. We have enough leaders who strayed away because of Chalta-hai attitude in them or their teams or their organisation.

Reflecting on my own journey, I realised that times where I excelled were rooted in unwavering discipline, while the instances where I faltered were often due to lapses in discipline, influenced by a "Chalta Hai" approach.
So in actual life, everyday we all oscillate between these two zones - Discipline & Chalta-hai. And that’s very natural.
Recognising which zone you are and then shifting swiftly (as necessary) enables you to recharge yourself and get back into the game.
When you encounter a challenge or when things aren't going as planned, take a moment to pause and note the zone you are operating in. It's highly likely that you or someone from the team has veered towards the "Chalta Hai" side of the scale in some areas that required disciplined actions. Help them / yourselves quickly shift the zone.
As you read this, I am sure even you can figure out your own moments of discipline and Chalta-hai.
