It's been quite a ride, and today, I want to share a personal story about my experience as a technical writer at Avaya. Recently, Avaya's Chapter 11 significantly impacted the company and, unfortunately, my role despite rating me as a strong performer in my last performance review cycle. Before diving into the recent changes, let me take a moment to reminisce about the good old days at Avaya. Over the past 15 years, I had the privilege of working alongside some brilliant minds and being a part of a unique work culture that embraced innovation and collaboration. We created and enhanced Avaya's incredible products, from Communication Manager to Contact Center, making communication seamless for countless users worldwide.

The unexpected twist: Bye-bye, Avaya

Alas, as the saying goes, all good things must end. May 29th, 2023, marked my last day at Avaya, thanks to the inevitable consequences of Chapter 11. The fear of losing my job had lingered in the background since day one, but now it had become a reality. However, I refuse to let fear dampen my spirits! Instead, I view this as an opportunity for growth and adventure.

The silver lining: Fresh perspectives and a break for yours truly

Avaya's decision to lay off someone with an extended stint like mine had two positive outcomes. First, it injected fresh talent into the company, bringing new perspectives and ideas. And secondly, it provided me with a well-deserved break, allowing me to ponder my next professional endeavor. So, while I bid farewell to my beloved Avaya family, I'm excited about what lies ahead.

From fear to freedom: A change of professional journey

Now that I'm no longer tethered to my desk at Avaya, I can't help but feel a sense of liberation. It's time to explore new horizons and embrace the change thrust upon me.
