What's the Alternative?

What's the Alternative?

Standing in the queue at Clicks the other day, I noticed a man standing in front of me. I didn’t recognize him – I just noticed him, as one does when idly waiting your turn in a queue. When it was his turn to be served, I overheard him say his name to the pharmacist at which point, I immediately realized that I DID in fact know him – we had worked together at Standard Bank 25 years ago!

Neither one of us recognized each other as over the years we had both changed. I realized just how significant change is – and in fact how much everything changes without us being consciously aware of it. Take a look around you right now – the desk you are sitting at was once a tree growing in the forest. In time, it will be recycled and possibly used as firewood. The keyboard you are typing on is made from plastic. Plastic comes from crude oil and in time, it too will be converted into something else. As human beings, we change dramatically over the years resulting in there being very little resemblance to the child you once were. How often do you “unconsciously” walk around, completely unaware that you may be encountering people who in your past, you once knew?

Change is inevitable, yet so many of us are fearful of the unknown. Just 20 years ago, the thought of being able to connect to an invisible force which would enable us to have access to EVERYTHING was a ridiculous concept. Yet, here we are in 2017 with majority of people being able to access the internet over their smart phones!

Change is not all bad – it prods us to expand our thinking and ultimately create new possibilities through collective thought and consciousness. We are after all, interconnected to each other on this journey called “life” – we can’t stop change, so let’s embrace it & look forward to the possibilities it has to offer.

Wishing you all an awesome 2018 with loads of positive change to uplift you & bring you closer to achieving your life goals!
