In the hustle of our daily grind, it's easy to find ourselves locked into routines that once defined success but now leave us yearning for something more. Take Nadine, whose name is changed but is an actual client of mine. She has a super successful business. She built it from nothing at a time when her family business was in a financial pickle and she proved to herself that she was independent, capable and damned good at what she does.?
The thing was, even though it more than paid the bills and kept them in a super comfy lifestyle, it didn't inspire her anymore.?
Nadine knew she was going through the motions, and while she knew she could get away with that for a bit, she also realised this was not how she wanted to live out the remainder of her working days.
She wanted to feel jazzed about work. Not ho-hum.??
She came to me with a dream of something new. Creating a different business where she could share her knowledge and help others to have financial success and freedom.?
Nadine's story is a familiar one. Many of us grapple with the daunting prospect of transitioning from the secure and known to a realm of vision and possibility. It's a shift from the safety of what we've mastered to the faith required to embrace the unknown. This journey can seem overwhelming, potentially deterring us from venturing beyond the dream into tangible change.
However, the allure of the "comfortable but boring zone" can be a silent saboteur, quietly coaxing us into complacency for years. The question lingers: What if you dared to explore the "what if"?
For Nadine, this exploration led to a revelation. She envisioned a new business where she could share her expertise and foster financial success for others. The prospect ignited a passion that had waned. The challenge, though, was profound—redefining herself when her livelihood and identity were entwined with her current business.

The key to this transformation lies not in recklessly burning bridges but in a measured and thoughtful approach. Crafting a well-designed exit plan, cultivating the right mindset, and building a robust support system are crucial.?
Nadine is now selling her business and has soft-launched her new baby. Her first clients are coming in the door. Her social media voice has changed.?
She is transitioning from her old identity into her newly evolved self.?
So, if you find yourself quietly wishing for something new, my advice is not to hastily dismantle your current life but to gently explore the possibilities. Understand how you can transition gracefully toward the life that beckons you forward.?
But also, don’t just sit in safety quietly wishing for something new.
Be brave. Be bold!
In the article "How being in learning mode may enable a sustainable career across the lifespan by Heslin, Keating, and Ashford (2019)*, they talk about the importance of staying curious and open-minded, and taking charge of your own journey. According to them, being in learning mode—basically having a growth mindset and being able to steer your own thoughts and actions—is key to having a career that lasts. Their study emphasizes the power of personal drive, self-control, and a mindset that's always ready to learn, especially when it comes to navigating the twists and turns of a lifelong career.
As someone who guides folks through life's challenges, I'm here to help you boost these skills, just like Nadine did.
