Embracing better tech: A Game Changer for Charities
Most charities already depend on technology to keep their operations running smoothly. From securing their infrastructure to enabling hybrid work environments, technology is an integral part of their day-to-day activities.
However, the true potential of technology extends far beyond these basic functions. As Nutbourne’s Marcus Evans says, technology offers exciting long-term possibilities for the third sector, particularly in unlocking critical insights about their operations.
“The data that charities capture can be a goldmine of information,” says Evans. “By analysing such data, organisations can see which of their programs are successful and which aren’t.
“In that respect, digital transformation is pushing the sector forward by helping charities to see the outcomes and the impact of investments.”

“That level of insight can be transformative. Connected system, for example, can trace the flow of funds from donors through to final outcomes, which in turn shows how effective fundraising efforts are. It ensures that the money raised is making a tangible difference.
That insight can also be used to enhance donor engagement. By understanding donor behaviour—such as who is donating, when they are donating, and which communications have the most engagement —charities can tailor their messaging to be more targeted and effective.
“A personalised approach not only strengthens donor relationships but also boosts the likelihood of future donations,” Evans says. “As tech gets better, things like AI and predictive analytics will help charities to make better decisions, better investments and reach donors more effectively. There’s no reason why that shouldn’t be standard practice.”
The integration of technology in the third sector offers immense potential. By using data and advanced technologies, charities can improve their operations, enhance their comms strategies, and ultimately, achieve their missions more effectively. The future of charity is digital, and those who embrace this transformation will be better positioned to make a lasting impact.
