Embracing Autism

To create a culture of Socially Responsive Communities that work together to build a better tomorrow
Instances of a child feeling agitated undertaking certain tasks, throwing tantrums due to distant noise, selective listening, avoiding contact, flapping their hands, or rocking their body are just as “normal” for a child with autism. I believe every child has the right to express themselves as they feel, although a neurotypical person might perceive these behaviours as unusual.
What do you think? Are children with autism content in their worlds? Or do we need to sensitise ourselves to accept them as they are and adjust our ways to let them be themselves? Probably what we can all do is learn to communicate in a way they understand. Therefore, we need to observe and note certain patterns we can adapt to, making the child with autism and ourselves more comfortable.
Communication
All children with autism have difficulty communicating, which often involves making eye contact. These children are generally selective listeners. To grab their attention, we need to make eye contact before providing them with the information that needs to be conveyed.
Activity Plan
Are we prepared for all the activities to be done during the day? The following questions can help us and the child in establishing a better routine, reducing confusion and managing the day more effectively.

These questions give the child a visual understanding of the day ahead, helping them to be prepared for the day.
Have a Schedule
Establishing a daily routine helps the child become familiar with the tasks and activities they need to engage in. It is imperative to be well-prepared and to support the child in adapting to new situations by clearly explaining the ‘how,’ ‘why,’ ‘what,’ and ‘when’ in ways they can easily understand.
By implementing these strategies, we can create an environment where children with autism feel understood and supported, enabling them to thrive while enhancing our ability to communicate and work effectively.
