Embrace Yourself: Celebrating Self-Love Day

Motivating others and preaching about loving yourself is an easy task to do. But following that and showing ourselves love is something most of us are not that great at. Loving yourself is a big task people consider. Especially in recent times when we are busy impressing others and asking for their validation while forgetting to appreciate ourselves.

Our life mostly revolves around following a 9-5 office routine. We go to work, hustle through our tasks, and then reach home exhausted. Taking care of oneself often takes a backseat amid the busy schedule. Why not create an environment at work that helps you focus on loving yourself rather than trying to impress others?

This newsletter will talk about the primary highlight of this day- which is the self-love day. Let’s dive in to know more.

History of Self-love Day

A study found an average global score of only 53, meaning that almost half of adults feel more self-doubt than self-love.

Although Self-love Month is not a recognized concept, it has a lot of variations in its history. Going with the popularity, February 13th is the day to celebrate self-love. This whole month aims to discuss finding ways to love and celebrate ourselves.?

  1. Taking regular breaks

While running after those deadlines, we often miss out on breaks. As we talk about self-love, that is the primary point we should focus on. Taking breaks is very necessary to revive and refresh our minds.?

We need to take time off when work gets overwhelming. So, go for a short stroll and probably do some stretching. ?

2. Hydration and nutrition??

Stay Hydrated at Work

When we talk about loving ourselves, health and wellness come into the picture by default. To love yourself, you should love your body too. And our physical and mental selves are fine when on a healthy diet regimen. For that, keep hydrating throughout the day, and make sure your tummy is full of healthy delicacies. Carry a water bottle everywhere, and pack a healthy lunch and snacks.?

Setting boundaries for yourself is a must; otherwise, that can hamper your peace of mind. When no boundaries are established at work, intrusion is possible. Maintain strict working hours and don’t entertain texts, emails, or calls post-work unless it’s an extreme emergency.?

4. Peer bonding

Staying all by yourself and minding your own business sounds great. But sometimes, you should leave that zone and make meaningful relationships at work. Having supportive colleagues can only make your work easier and more likable. Try to have positive interactions and conversations with your coworkers and form that network to have a sense of belonging. Go out on team lunches and tea with them.

Also, in matters of struggling issues, do not hesitate to take support from your peers and managers alike. Let your heart out. They can help you and offer you the support you seek.

5. Mindfulness

Take short mindfulness sessions with yourself. Incorporate mindfulness activities into your routine, like meditation and mindfulness walks, to relieve yourself from those chaotic emotions of stress. You can try deep breathing exercises and even opt for mindful eating. These activities will stimulate your mind and help you refocus.

6. The word NO

The art of saying no, as we call it, often comes in handy when prioritizing self-love. You cannot keep on agreeing to everything that comes your way. Try to be selective in taking on new tasks, and be free to say no to the ones that go beyond your capacity. Commit to only those you can.

7. Get moving

Get moving

Engage in physical activities or exercises and incorporate those into your daily routine. Take stairs, go out on walks in breaks, do desk exercises, and do some stretching. Movement helps boost moods and productivity, leading to overall fitness.

8. Self-compassion

According to HuffPost's research, 1 in 3 people worldwide struggle with accepting or appreciating themselves, and 89% of respondents acknowledge that self-compassion is essential to practicing self-love.

Be there for yourself during challenging times. Sometimes, you may not be able to accomplish some tasks. In times like this, go easy on yourself and empathize and understand it. There can be hard times, and you should accept them, try to rectify them, and not criticize yourself.?

Go on solo dates, treat yourself to some good and soulful food, and relieve that tension. Reflect on the small wins even.

9. Realistic goals

Taking a lot of tasks on your plate can stress you out and affect your efficiency. You need to prioritize your peace of mind and take one task at a time. Break the big projects into smaller achievable targets and celebrate your accomplishments.

10. ?Digital detox

As per the same study by Huffpost, 48% millennials feel social media negatively affects on their Self Love journey.

It is often advisable to avoid cell phones and laptops when you have overused them. Digital detox is considered peaceful and highly recommended to boost your overall wellness. Try practising taking breaks from social media and other digital platforms like checking emails, among other things.
